Forget about the jam. The SC720-53 is what you need to be trouble shooting. When an error occurs in a downstream device, the main frame detects the stoppage of paper movement first. After you open and close the door, the actual error is displayed.
    SC720-53
    • Finisher: Booklet stapler bottom fence motor error When the component moved to the home position, the sensor could not detect the component within the prescribed time (1st error triggers a jam, 2nd error issues this SC code).
    • When the component moved from the home position, the sensor could not detect the component within the prescribed time (1st error triggers a jam, 2nd error issues this SC code).

    Possible causes
    • Motor defective
    • Connector loose, broken, defective
    • Motor overload
    • HP sensor dirty, disconnected

Check the finisher sensors in IO mode.

lubricate all steel shafts. Try swapping or replacing motors that probably don't work well.
