Are you sure that it is the trailing edge? Remember that normal copying and printing the paper is ran down to the duplex unit and then back up and out for face down output to keep multiple pages in the correct order. With face down exiting, the trail edge is the lead edge going through image transfer and fusing. The martini models have a history of lead edge background on the first page following setting idle if the drum is getting old and the charge corona is due for rebuild. The drum surface does not reach full charge potential in time for the lead 2 inches of the first page. First thing to try is a new or rebuilt corona. If the dtum has more that 1.2M on it you might considering replacing it as well.
Looks like the drum drive is slipping. Slim as usual is correct about the process, lead edge versa trail edge but the sample provided looks like you have a bit of compression on the image after the black banding.
if it is happening on print then not the scanner rails..
I always pull the drum unit, clean the charge unit, wire, grid etc and then clean
the mylar under the cleaning bush and sensor"which i pull out" and use water damp towel to clean to
get it to seal tighter against drum..You at time might need to replace it..
I always find keeping this clean reduces call backs and CQ ISSUES..
I ordered main charge wire and grid. Hopefully this fixes it. It happens when copying and internal prints like the copy count page. What's weird too is I replaced the transfer belt and blade and it got better. Transfer belt had over million on it as far as I can tell. It was doing it on almost every page but now just does it on first page. I also tried whole drum unit including charge assembly from parts machine the customer has and it does the same thing. Hopefully something is wrong with both charge units. Will update after I install wire and grid. Thanks for all the input!

you can take lacquer thinner and rag and really clean the drum shaft..
I would put a bunch of paper over the transfer unit b4..
You can clean the grid wth dish soap and hot water n rinse real good...
the wire can be cleaned wth pencil erasure then alcohol..
Make sure the frame is wiped clean wth alcohol..
also all filters keep clean, inside and rear..
Dark band and shrinking image at trailing edge on first copy/print only.
Any ideas?
f the consumables are all ok, try to clean / replace the air filters, in particular that of the corona c.c. , then, do the last update of the engine & system / copy, and here you will now have available sp-3-990-001 = regulate air fan speed, this should improve the ejection from the print engine of the ozone created during the process of print (0=slow,same a previous firmware 1-fast), the filter must be clean, i recommend!
