MPC5502a start up slow and no VMcard in slot 2

Java is installed and I would like to uninstall but the machine came in without a VMcard anywhere. Can it be uninstalled without it? I am assuming this is why the copier is taking so long to do anything.
Tried Memory clear NOT 1 and 2 of course.
    New HDD and reformatted.
It has one other problem... I can't allocate functions for the hard keys. They simply do not show up.

Try changing SP5730 from 1 to 0 to disable java, then reboot.

If you have disabled JAVA with SP5730 you can uninstall it from additional functions.

However this is unlikely why the machine is taking so long to boot. How long are we talking?

The 5502 Java is on an SD card not embedded like the 03 models and newer. If there is no VM card but there is a card in one of the slots, chances are someone merged (tried) Java to that card, in most cases when this happens its the PS card. If there is no card in either slot there is a larger issue of some kind.

I ended up using a spare controller out of a junker. I needed to install this machine in the morning! I now can see to options to load the function keys and machine is much faster to enter user tools, sp mode, etc... Thanks everyone!
