The best preventive solution is to test the new firmware on an isolated machine, or even several, before rolling it out to the masses.

It's a real mess to have to roll back firmware on a few hundred machines. I had that happen twice at a very large account a few years back. No fun at all.

Should that be the motherships job to keep both customer and dealers happy?

so you are wanting to update firmware on a machine for a financial institution and yet you don't know if the copier has access so you can update the firmware from the copier itself? ummmm your best bet would be to call a ricoh tech. financial institutions have to stay on top of the latest firmware as they get hit during an audit if they dont keep up to date...

I was able to go into the service mode and did the update there. It was really simple and only took about 40 mins
