during PM did you clean the inside of the machine along with laser glass?

did you init/reset the parts life?

what exactly did you do besides replace parts?

third party crap toner being used?

Light copies and SC392 point to a bad or dirty ID sensor. You may also need to clean the optics including all mirrors.

Had same problem a year ago... Turned out to be the laser unit, had to clean polygon motor and glasses inside, caused by toner dust from the bottle. If it was dirty inside the toner hopper... Probably there is toner dust inside the laser unit.

make sure that both the drum and the development group rotate correctly, block the machine while the sheet scrolls on the drum and check if the image is clearly visible on the surface of the drum. Also if you have a problem in the toner hopper you will have clear copies.

Original Ricoh OPC? Sounds exactly like the problems I ran into when I had to use generic lime green drums for the AF1018. You can turn up the Dev bias but this causes other problems down the line

I thought there is an error code when you don't install the toner hopper
                  ????

if I'm not mistaken the code appears only on the A4 like the mp161 etc.

On some entry level models the laser is disabled when there is not toner bottle installed.
