MP 3352 Get's a "Functional error" after entering Auto Off mode

Been doing this a while (20 years).

You guys have always been able to steer me towards a fix.

    So far...
Replaced the HDD, formatted and tested...results> boots normal, makes great copies, gets the functional error whether I set the auto off timer to 2 minutes or 4 hours.
After a turn off and back on everything seems fine.

Sometimes there's a SC error instead on the functional error. Last one was a SC990 and I think the one before that (2 days ago) was a SC870 but mostly the Functional Error shows up.

Did a firmware upgrade, replaced the HDD again, formatted and tested...results> exact same as above, great copies, bla bla bla.

So it's looking like it's not the HDD.

Seems like a great machine and I have it sold and the new owner is being very patient with me.

Ideas? My customer is anxious to spend the last of his PPP funding.

Hope the Covid isn't too much of a strain on your business.

Not many peeps at work here in St. Louis.

    Thanks
    Jeff in STL

Re: MP 3352 Get's a "Functional error" after entering Auto Off mode

The HDD most likely took care of the SC870, Address Book error.

SC 990 is a software performance error. Usually indicates a corrupted firmware module. When you "Did a firmware upgrade" did you use individual firmware modules or the package firmware? Package only update those modules that are not at current level. It does not reload corrupted firmware. You need to use individual firmware modules and manually select ALL modules.

Package firmware is not supported on this model.

Still breaks down to whether he "Updated" those modues not at current version or reloaded everything.

Functional Error without an SC code?
Do you mean random reboots Foo?
Controller board is the most suspicious part...

Or SP 5875-001 Reboot Setting is set to 0 and SP 5875-002 is set to 0 Manual Reboot. 0 is the Default for both. Set SP 5875-001 th 1 and the SC will be displayed.

Just ran out to the shop...I had left it to run and it had a SC990 displayed.
              I also reset SP 5875-001 to 1...it was 0.

Also when we did the firmware update, it was a SD card with a package on it.
Basically started the machine and the display showed we had the firmware inserted.
Told it to install and it did (only after we found out we had bad SD card and switched it out).

Problem with this method? Truthfully this was the first time I had witnessed a firmware update.
I have a friend in the business and have had him do any I needed done out in the field.
This time I took the machine to him and got to watch the process.

              Thanks

I was just reminded that we had to check boxes to start with, indicating what modules we wanted to update.
                We checked them all.

After an "Auto Off Timer" The machine now throws a SC990.

Reboot and everything is great and works. But after any auto off I get the sc990.

I'm right at the point that I'm thinking controller board.
3 new HDD's, Firmware update and still with the SC990's.

Anyone else have an idea I'd like to hear it.

That is what the service manual says. See if you can find a functional used machine to use as a parts machine. Might be less costly than a new board. Also check with the current Ricoh board repair facility, they often will be able to send you a repaired board. They will charge a core charge that is refundable as long as return the old board.

Yes, the thread is 2 weeks old. Also the unit is a MP 2852 (my bad)

                      SO a follow up...
Reinstalled latest firmware (checked all the boxes). Tested, still has a SC 990 error after sitting idle for 4 hours.
Purchased Controller Board (newer version D1225741). Tested, still has a SC 990 error after sitting idle for 4 hours.
Reinstalled original Controller Board. Tested, still has a SC 990 error after sitting idle for 4 hours.
Installed new HDD. Tested, still has a SC 990 error after sitting idle for 4 hours.

Testing goes as follows: Boot machine, wait for complete boot process, Print a couple of Counter sheets, Take those sheets and run several copies, walk away checking on it every 2 hours to see current condition. Always after the 4 hour mark I find it with a SC 990 code.

Any more ideas. This machine is sold and being delivered soon...if fixed.

Thanks for re-looking at this thread, I value your time and knowledge!

You say firmware was updated, you've not said what versions you updated? post a diagnostics report here if possible.

Search this bulletin, it mentions SC990 the fix was system/copy v.1.07 however this is an old version but might be worth checking.

If it throws SC990 every 4 hours & the machine works fine prior this is very specific, try setting SP5730 to 0 this disables JAVA & SP5191-001 set to 0 this stops the controller going to 'sleep' this has resolved a few random SCs for me in the past.

This machine does not have an SP5191

Thanks I'll let it sit 4 hours a see what happens.
I have sourced main bcu board in case nothing else works (haven't purchased yet).

Thanks let me know if you know that second SP to shut down.
