Are you absolutely sure that the error code is SC204 or is that a typo? To my knowledge there s absolutely no relation between the PTR assembly and the polygon mirror motor.

First....how is it that you say 'all seems fine' when the machine doesn't work at all
Second, I completely agree with Tim. SC204 is a polygon error. I don't see any connection between the 2 areas

There was a bulletin forever ago about the lower springs causing this. If you take the ptr out no error. So would we still not get a polygon error if the ptr were removed?

Then why are you not doing what that supposed bulletin says to do to correct the problem.?

Thanks. Yes I have and just was having a hard time lining up those springs. I did and it works and so yes an sc204 does have to do with ptr

so if your brain is that feeble how can you rely on it to pull the proper information out of the depths?

We see all these posts from you when the info is CLEARLY (most times) in the manual. Are you that afraid to look it up in the manual?

Before I retired I had them all on my laptop that went everywhere I went.

I guess he prints out the PDF's instead of keeping them on his laptop.

I had an SC204 caused by a loose ground wire in the transfer section on an old BW Ricoh, took a long time to figure out that problem.

This code can also be caused by something really sneaky. At the bottom of the paper transfer unit there's a bar with two wedges on the end that stop the unit moving too far forward, allowing you to close the side door without having to push the unit back manually. Either side of this bar there is a spring. Check to see they haven't been dislodged.
