Did you reload every firmware module or just those that were not up to date? The problem could be a corrupted module that was already up to date.
Check the SC history to see if there are the occurrences seem to be happening at roughly the same time each day. There may be some thing on the network or signal coming in on the phone line if it has Fax that is causing the error.
Other things that can cause SC899 would be incoming IP FAX or email. I have even seen it on new installs where accounting for the old machine was trying to communicate with the old machine.
Try disconnecting the network and see if the problem goes away.

it can also be a document format that the machine can interpret unplug from network and restart
it could already be on hard drive unplug HDD restart without HDD then switch off plug in the HDD when it starts up format HDD "hopefully you have an address book backed up somewhere at the client
.all the best

Before fiddling around with firmware I'd say +1 for the "crap from the network" theory: Unplug the MFP for a while and see what happens and check the SC history for other SC codes that might not have popped up on the display in case of HDD related issues.
There is a Custom PCL firmware that addresses SC899. This is what you need.
D1205551D_LR0005.fwu is the name of the module you need. Check the firmware on the machine, and if that one is missing....install it!

Before installing this custom firmware check that the currently installed is not D1205551E or later. D1205551D_LR0005 was a temporary firmware fix developed by Ricoh-USA that was later replaced by and incorporated in production firmware D1205551E.
