    SP 5210DN / SP 5210DF Successor?

    Hi Guys,

I am a fairly new tech compared to some of the veterans here. In the 10 years that I have been working on Ricoh digital machines, I have never come across something as robust and bulletproof as the SP 5210DN or SF for Black & White. Sometimes controller issues, premature fuser wear, toner spilling can occur however as a whole they have always been reliable.

Ricoh says they replaced the 5210SF with the MP 501. I am scratching my head with these new printer style machines. Quality of materials looks like it has gone completely downhill and the consumables often don't reach yield and it looks like they are more expensive to maintain ever since the separated the toner and the drum assy.

Anyone out here had good experience with the MP 501 / 401SPF? Is there something still bulletproof when it comes to printers or the golden days have gone? Been looking at the P501 and I am not sure if it can perform either.

    Thanks in advance.
If it works, don't touch it.

The MP 501 is a Kyocera engine with a Ricoh controller and op panel. I agree, they are a different beast. The MP 401/402 is a little chintzy and a replacement for the MP 301. The P501 is a printer version of the newer MP 501 (IM550), Previously the SP5300.

I literally chucked the 401spf in the bin.

Wayyy to early drum failures. Do you have any positive experience with the P501 printer?

      Thanks

No better than the previous SP5300 (MP501). Have lots of pharmacies that print thousands of pages a week on them and the Fuser units fail at 1/4 life and are a royal pain to replace. At least the MP 401 consumables are extremely easy to replace like the 5210. The P501 takes an engineering degree to service. And if the controller fails it requires a complete strip to the frame to get to it... Not a fan of them. Unfortunately there isn't any other in the Ricoh family in that space right now (a4 B&W printer)...

The 5210 was a great model I agree, but no way is the MP 501 a replacement.! (the MP 501 is the same as a SP 5310DN)

As others have said it is basically a Kyocera this model was awful & this engine style has been around for like 10 years so its OLD technology!

We have been installing colour desktop models & simply defaulting to B/W some clients are now happy to switch to colour.

If your budget allows install a C307/C407.
