    Ricoh 2022 jams before fuser

Seems like fuser rollers not turning when installed in copier.
Had it out and everything is intact and turns freely by hand.
Paper just stalls before entering fuser like it has no drive?
Swapped another fuser and it worked fine.

What is most likely the problem is the little leaf spring that pushes the drive gear in the machine into the gear on the fuser.

Whenever the door is opened, the mechanism releases the drive to the fuser so that a jam can be more easily removed, but if the spring doesn't have enough tension, the drive will not engauge properly. Replacing the fuser unit, or pulling it out & back in, can also either stop it from working & get it to work again.

The spring needs a slight adjustment (bend...) so that it pushes a bit harder to make the contact required.

    Cheers

I'd say if it were the leaf spring, it must be missing or broken. Otherwise it would have to be pretty deformed to cause the fuser not to turn at all. Or it would have a grinding sound.

Must be whatever it is that engages that spring on the fuser itself. Or maybe something funky with the entrance guide to the fuser.

Also make sure registration roller is clean and sticky, and that reg roller cleaning brush is clean.

      Regards

With the fuser out, you can push yourself on the drive gear. You will se you have at least a 1/2 inch of retraction....all the leaf spring does is allow the drive gear to contact the fuser drive gear. It doesn't apply the holding pressure under load. The torque of the motor rotating the drive gear holds the gears together.....but if the leaf spring is bent the gears can never touch.
