adding a SOP panel to a normal mpc4503?

    hi
I was asked to add a sop panel to a mpc4503 that i have.
I checked my mpc4503 manual and could not find anything for SOP conversion.
From the past i remember you have to flash the SOP engine or system FW while still with NOP
panel and then swap and change some service modes settings.
    Anyone have this info please
    thanks

These should help. One is from the service manual for the MP C2503/2003. The other is the service manual for the SOP.
PS I think the SOP service manual might be more accurate as it was released later.

I looked into this a while ago but decided not to bother as the controller boards are not the same on the SP vs Zsp ?

I am no expert but i thought the SOP panel was swap and do certain service modes changes and good to go...
If the controllers were different wouldnt there be two different models of mpc4503?

There are 2 different models, they are both D148, but the standard panel is an MP C4503SP (controller part number D1885212) and the SOP model is an MP C4503ZSP (controller part number D1885232)

Upgrading to the Smart Panel is easy in the US. Just load the new firmware, change a few SP modes, then swap the old control panel out and put the new control panel in. Done.

Thanks DEBS but when you say controller are talking controller where the nic,FW SD card ports and fax option mount or on the control panel?
I have only done this upgrade on a MPC401 a long while ago.

I'm talking about the controller board (NIC, SD card, fax, etc.), not the ops panel. Although looking at other replies, this may be different in the US, here in the UK there are definitely 2 different controller boards

Slim posted the install manual as the first response to this tread, all the original poster has to do is read that manual.

I looked those up because I had actually done an upgrade. Now admittedly it was a C3503 and not a C4503 and I did have to connect the tech support desk to clarify a minor difference between the manuals as to when in the sequence the SP were to be made.

THAT S GIVEN BUT when i see a post saying new controller will be needed I do not want to brick a low meter mpc4503.
I put this machine to the side and had other more immediate work, non copier thank god" to complete..
I never heard before a panel upgrade needing an expensive controller swap, seems not worth the upgrade just on paper..
SO in USA NO need to swap controller but in EU you have to......ok..odd
