First thing to do is to update all firmware, don't forget to update the smart operation panel too. Next, turn off Java if it's not being used. If still a problem, try replacing the hard drive and reseating memory dimms.
The following is from a bulletin for the 03s but should still be applicable since the service manual for the 04s lists the USB connection as a possible cause.
SUBJECT: SC CODE 672, 672-11 OR 672-12 OCCURS
SYMPTOM:
A Service Code SC672, SC672-11 or SC672-12 occurs.
CAUSE:
The Operation Panel communicates with a controller through USB cable and IPU. When the Operation Panel
cannot communicate with a controller, the Operation Panel displays SC672 or SC672-11 or SC672-12.
The MFP displays the Service Code constantly or intermittently during a print or copy job. Sometimes after
rebooting the MFP code clears and appears after some time.
These are following possibilities or causes:
[*=1]Failure of the USB communication path or Damaged USB connector ( Fig 1 USB harness Part Number D1495225)
[*=1]No response from controller
[*=1]Bad Memory DIMM or IPU
[*=1]Incorrect procedure followed during converting regular operation panel to smart operation panel or vice versa.
Before spending money replacing anything, try disconnecting from both the controller and the panel and plugging back in.
Thanks much to all of you who has responded and thrown in your suggestions and ideas, i will get back to you guys when get back from visiting the customer.
Any ideas as to solving Sc672, heading out to a customer in a few dats time with this issue.
Regards.
it could be the usb cable behind the card, try to disconnect it and "press" it lightly with pliers, so as to make it a little harder to insert, while you're there, clean the contacts between the cards, and update the firmware
