customer complaining about fan cycling on and off on a MPC4503

Greetings
I got a call regarding a MPC4503 that sits near the desk of this person.
He states it randomly cycles on/off during the day.
The office is cool with ac running.
Any settings in service mode to disable this?

Machine trying to regulate the humidity? Trying to cool from the always ready fuser temp?

Just because the office is a comfortable temperature for humans doesn't mean it's the best possible environment for machines.

There is a thermistor on the back wall of the PCDU/ITB cavity called the IMAGING TEMPERATURE SENSOR. You could try changing the internal temperature at which the imaging cooling fans and the exit cooling fan, SP 1055 [Fan Control]. You may also want to check all the fan filters. As they become dirty they cause extra load on the fan which leads to more vibration noise.

We had one in our office doing the same thing. I don't know if they all do it, or maybe it was just that one. I have looked through user tools and service mode for what seemed like hours, didn't find any solution. Firmware was up to date. Tried different low power and sleep mode settings, never could get it to stop doing it. It is very annoying sitting next to it in a quiet office.

Try this
Switch to this mode to enhance noise reduction.In silent mode, scanning and copying/printing is slower than usual.
Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.
Flick the screen to the left, and then press the [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) icon.
Press [Machine Features].
Press [System Settings].
Check that [General Features] is selected.
Press [Silent Mode].
Press [On].
Press [OK].
Press [Exit].
Press [User Tools] (Operation panel screen illustration) on the top right of the screen.
Press [Home] (Operation panel screen illustration) at the bottom of the screen in the center.

A lot of great advices. Generally speaking those machines are smart they have themp/humidity sensors possible not only one, at least several fans to keep internal air flow and temperature of various key parts in certain range. Silent mode is good advice sure it will impact machine speed and response.

Hey Andy!

I started a thread about a seemingly very similar issue I had on a couple of MP C401's that I had on hand a few months back.

It was the cooling fan on the controller that ran non-stop! At random times is it would cycle off for a few seconds but never stopped.

I did discover that it would stop when disconnected from the network, but the second that the ethernet cable was connected to the machine the fan would cycle up. I even tried plugging it into a small network switch, and the result was the same - even when the switch wasn't connected to a network! .

The fact that it did it on 2 machines that I had on hand made me think that it could be something normal that I'd just not noticed before, but I've since had a couple more -including one sitting right next to me that doesn't behave this way .
Yes, all the F/W was updated, so all the machines were virtually identical.

I sold the 2 that were 'misbehaving', and they continue to do the same thing at their new homes (as far as I know), but no complaints as they're in offices with some ambient noise.
I'm hoping that the fans hold up, because the machine throws an SC code when they are disconnected/ fail.

Just thought I'd weigh in with my experience, and now I'm following this thread in case there's some info provided that might help me resolve my issue too.

I love the mpc401 series and grab them whenever i can.
The funny thing is i had the machine left on for 3 days in the shop b4 delivery and heard nothing..
But then i am half deaf from swimmers ear.............
I DONT have any 03s to try things on in the shop......

I'm still assuming it's not normal, other Ricoh models don't do it. If anyone reading this goes on an MP C4503, listen closely to see if it's doing it.

I've not, personally, had this problem, but a colleague of mine resolved it by updating the print driver to a PCL6 one, it had previously been using a class driver.
