this is for newbies....check the corona wire cleaner, it got stuck halfway.
you can bring it to the home position, and disconnect the motor connector, it will be almost completely dead anyway.

Im assuming thats an 11x17/ledger size which in that case it would be happening in the feed direction which would rule out the corona cleaner. also assuming thats an internal test pattern and not a copy? copying cheques/money with security features can cause weird outputs. i remember an issue on a few of the earlier series where the screw for the coupler for the drum flywheel would work its way loose eventually causing the coupler to move out of the slots on the drive gear. or possibly a bad drum/drum ground? is it consistently in the same position on the page?

edit: if you have ever had a corona wire break you get a completely black copy so i would look more towards drum/transfer

the line is always in the same place whether it is printing or copying, the drum does not move, two small screws and a large one on the shaft. the only thing left is the laser. or a new machine.

is it letter SEF/LEF? legal? ledger? same position on the page on all page sizes? any SC codes? how many copies on machine? how many copies on pm parts?

what do you mean by the drum does not move?

not saying it cant be laser but i would lean more towards a drum or transfer issue before going after the laser. if it was laser most likely you would be getting laser unit related sc codes

Horizontal is meaningless. You should specify parallel to or perpendicular to the direction of paper. Let's start with the basics. The MP 6001 is a write to No Charge so a problem with the charge corona would cause black not white. Two possible areas, development unit and laser unit.
              1. Check for a dirty laser shield glass or something setting on the shield glass
              2. Check for a void on the development brush. If there is then the doctor blade needs to be cleaned. Use A2949560 Paper Dust Cleaner - 5pcs/set
              3. Worst case scenario is you have dust or toner inside the laser unit on a mirror or lens.

thank you all for the suggestions, and especially slimslob , the problem was on the exposure glass, more precisely on the mount. the picture says it all.

Strange thing, I don't understand how it ended up there, it looks like one of the two felts mounted next to the drum cleaning blade.

It's also strange that he didn't see it, probably on the first turn, he tried to replace the corona unit without removing the drum block

One screw, one plug for the cleaner motor and it slides right out.
