I have one giving me a service code sc101-1 when copying or scanning thru the document feeder. You can copy from the glass or scan with no issues. When you copy from the document feeder the copy will come out fine but after the the copy is finished the code pops up. I raised the doc feeder and watch the scanner when I cheated the doc feed close sensor. The lamp moves to the right but only the front half leds light up. If I make a copy from the glass all the leds light so they are not burned out per say. Ricoh said to replaces scanner and if that does not work replace bcu. Has anyone ever had this problem ?

As SC101-01 occurs using ADF but not from Glass, before replacing parts, check that the ADF is square with Scanner unit, the scanner ribbon cable is secure & update the firmware.

Here is another known cause for SC101.

SC101-01 is about the machine detecting its white reference when scanning. Checking ribbon cable and wire connects is not a bad idea, but make sure the white reference strip on the underside of the glass is clean as well as the white roller reference on side 2 scanning. If your white reference is good, then your LED lamp is the issue.

it seems like a really strange behavior!
I would first go with the complete firmware, it's free...use SD card and not RFTU for this occasion.

I've replaced about 3 of those scanner units. It's not that tricky to replace. Just take a photo before you start. Just need to loosen the belt tension where that sping is then slide forward. Disconnect flat ribbon and swap out. It comes as one part number.
