    MP-C406 firmware update fails

Our business has an MP-C406z Ricoh copier. When I run the Windows 10 Scan to Folder utility on a desktop computer I get a message saying that I need to update the copier firmware.
Every path I take leads me to the Ricoh firmware update utility. The first time I ran it the copier had an error at 30% that said I needed to reboot the printer and if the problem persists call technical support. The next two times (or so) the copier crashed at 88%. Long story short is regardless of how long I leave it, it won’t complete the firmware update.
Ive read that I need to update the firmware in steps, but can’t find any version of the firmware…. Only the utility which keeps crashing.

I can still print through the network, and the network sees the copier, but the web browser can’t connect to anything on the internet.

problem 1) finding newer firmware to update using an SD card
    2) fixing the internet connection issue
    3) configuration of scan to folder on the PC. This may be really easy using the utility after the firmware is updated.

so there is a problem with the ricoh servers, the other day I had to update the firmware of the mp3050 from a customer, and I had forgotten the SD in the lab, so I used RFU that which was fixed at 88%, and in any case it was much slower than usual.
on the second attempt given the time, I let it go, and I told the customer to leave the PC on during the night, and that I would call him the next morning to check if he had finished, and when I called him he told me that in the morning he found it 100% finished... so I would suggest you leave it all night, or the day, as you prefer, I don't think this is a coincidence.
for the scanner issue, i dont know, must be see

I was able to use the update utility successfully on our mp-c300. I have let it run its course twice now on the 406 and both times it ended with an error on the desktop utility and an error on the 406. I don’t remember the #### but when I looked it up it’s usually related to the “usb” cable that connects the controller to the printer.

When I try to manually connect the “406” to scan it comes up with an SMTP settings error, an if I proceed an unknown error when I try to connect it to the destination folder.

I have also found that the web browser no longer works. It doesn’t matter what site I enter it says, “Webpage not available”

I can still print to it and access the printer GUI on my computer, but I can’t access the web. Previously I had full web access.

I feel like the best option now would be to restore it to factory settings and start over… although I’ll have to look that up again for this printer.

Installing a newer firmware might help if I can find it rather than the utility which keeps failing.

it was just a feedback on this 88% stall anomaly with RFU.
for the rest follow the procedure that copiertech said, which is the same I would have done if I hadn't forgotten the SD cards at the company.

For the lack of internet access I went back to basics. After a complete shut down and restart of everything on the network, internet access is working again. I'm going to download the firmware and bring the MP-C406z up to date, I've also got a MP-C2501 to update and configure to scan to folder on the server. Once everything is updated, I'm planning to have a Ricoh tech come out (if the updates don't make it so I can scan to folder). I'm running out of time to get everything working properly, and hiring them should resolve the issue once and for all.

I've got the MP-C300 and MP-C2501 firmware updated and scanning to network drives.

I'll be manually updating the firmware on the MP-C406z and going forward from there. So far so good... Two copiers ready for our offices.
