The sad thing is the Aficio 2045 series toner/developer combo worked flawless. The toner would wipe right off the mag roller at every pm and there was no puking or overtoneing to speak of. Why Ricoh went and chaged what was working fine is beyond me.

The 3500/4500 are easy to dump B079 developer and toner into - never have a problem with premature failure again - you may have to adjust the fuser temp, and you have to take great care to make sure the customer gets the "right" toner, but it works great. the 4/5000 and that goofy toner hopper is another story. I haven't tried to modify one of these yet because I only have about 20 of them in a low volume account, but I'm hoping Ricoh's new toner formula (due out by April, or so I hear) fixes these things.

I'm not a real fan of the new color machines either - drum never seems to go to life, and it's a lot harder to change than the old 38ppm printers. HV is my specialty - If all my machines were like the Pro906ex I could live like the Maytag Repairman

          the final solution!

Not sure if anybody else is aware, the final solution is being released globally as we speak, there is a mod kit which contains 1 x pcu, 1 x modified dev unit, 1 x developer and 2 x modified toner. Now, the modified toner is still called Type MP4500E and has the same EDP code but the content is different. Unless you change all the parts at the same time then the issue will return.

P/N for the kits (not available to order, these will be allocated by RCL) B2969900 - MP3500/4500
          D0099900 - MP4000/5000

Have fun out there and remember, if you pick it and its black, don't put it back!

I'm skeptical about that solution. How will we know if the toner that we have in stock is the new toner? The solution will be tempory if you put in old toner later on.

Ask Ricoh if you can send ALL current stock back for exchange. It's worth asking the question I suppose.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

              Hit it.

I had the pleasure of attending a MP5000 today with only 35k on the clock with a completely caked up mag roller and light copies.
As it was the first occurance I just cleaned it up, applied the bias tweak and forced the toner supply once.
I've cleaned up 3 or 4 MPs like this now and it has to be said it's been months and none of them have resurfaced yet.

Another effective if not temporary fix is to set SP5118 to 1.

awwww... c'mon - once the engineers were forced to finally own up to the pitiful toner formula Ricoh will do the right thing... of course the right thing would have been to listen to the techs who actually have to work on these things and fix the toner WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back when it was only causing one generation of machine to puke all over itself, but that's beside the point.

I've used that one before - It was on a machine with a sticky toner clutch that would have been a bigger mess than it already was if the customer tried to use it. While I was packing up my tools and ordering the part I watched someone flip up the "OUT OF ORDER" sign to put their originals in the doc feeder, turn it on, and they were reaching for the power cord to plug it in when I stopped them... "but I need to make a copy"

Logonda, you have a point. It could be they would look at a site like this as a group of unprofessional hacks that have no idea what they are doing, even though we know different.
