locked out mpc5504 ex

Hi out there,
I hope the collective wisdom can help with this one, its something I have been trying to solve for a while but so far I've hit a brick wall.

Ok, MPC5504ex - came back from hire with most of the icons removed - no toner display etc, I presume some handy IT guy decided to clean up the display to stop the office geeks playing with it.

Did what I normally do, started to install the package firmware, but on re boot it said "reboot after card insert . E32" then underneath it says "CheetahApli Card No:1/1"

so now,
cant get into service mode
machine will not go past this message
machine will not re load the package - in just hangs on the "preparing for firmware update" message
Have loaded cheetah software via the screen, but it will not load any other screen software like the toner app or anything.

so - is the "CheetahApli" firmware - I cant see it as a firmware option
can I "force" the machine to load the package ?

Any Ideas

to reload the panel firmware, did you do the correct procedure? does "user tools" not appear to go to the restore panel menu? maybe someone has loaded the firmware version "not ex", or with a standard keyboard?

Administrator may have turned off service access in User Tools.

Machine may not have been shutdown properly. That can cause massive corruption in firmware modules. If you can access with WIM, look for any error messages. You may need to do remote firmware update through WIM.

Package firmware, you can't trust it as far as you can chuck it. I would load the individual romdata files and try loading that way. Hopefully it should come back to life.

If you were installing using an sd card, maybe it will recover using the firmware update tool. I would try it.

Load BOTH the package & modular firmware files in the romdata firmware & try that.

You don't need to update the cheetah firmware individually as it is included in the .pkg file.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

I have tried literally everything, cannot access the web browser, cannot get into service mode as it throws the E32 error before it boots properly. No copier - no document server - no nothing, so I cannot get a key pad display up to even begin to get into service mode. It wont load any firmware - just hangs on the "preparing for firmware update" screen all day if you leave it. Its bleeps if you open a door but thats it - no door open display - nothing. Its proper bricked out.

I'm pretty sure it thinks its a toaster or something.....
I need a proper "black arts" hack on this one....

Put system/copy firmware only in the romdata folder, delete everything else on the card, put the card in the device and power on, when E32 appears leave it at least 5 minutes, then key in reset 143 CCC, then reboot with the SD card still in the device, it should update system/copy and come ready

I was just reading this thread where someone had installed NOP firmware onto a SOP and was experiencing similar issues. Maybe that happened.

Ok,
so final update on this.

Debs kindly supplied the way back into the machine (system Firmware ONLY C143CCC). Once this was on the machine would still not load package firmware, but luckily I have all the individual fimware in a folder. I loaded this on thru the "Romdata" file path, rebooted the machine but was still missing most of the icons on the screen.

Back to the "Package" software and it loaded the missing bits ok (after the usual legacy software has stopped responding faff about) and we are all up and running.

I still have no clue why it fell over, but if it happens again Im ready for it, firmware locked and loaded!!!

Hello friends, sorry to revive this post. Yesterday, updating an MPC2004 with the firmware package, the same thing happened to me. Just thank Debs1964 for his contribution, with which I solved the problem. Thanks.
