We have, works fine so far. Been using 500gb. We have one tech that thinks he has figured out why the hdd's fail so often. He said he has set the hdd erase on the copier from dod three pass to random number single pass. Lot less wear on hdd.

      This is an interesting question.

      I've tried a 160GB SSD on a Ricoh MP2550 and it didn't work.

Anybody got any additional information on this?

The original HDD size for the 2550 was 80GB. I have had problems in the past with Ricohs not liking drives that were 50% larger.

          I put in a 1TB hard drive when I couldn't get an 80GB or 160GB and it's worked fine.

Was it new? Was it formatted prior to the copier?

Generally any unformatted hard drive with the right connector will work. Just remember that the system will format the drive to the size of the factory installed one. So a larger drive just ends up with a lot of unused space. With smaller drive sizes becoming harder to find, there's not much choice but to use drives much larger than the device would have originally used.

Absolutely correct. I've experienced this as well

The HDD erase is off by default so do you guys enable this option on every device ?

Since HDD aren't excluded in service contracts we don't always turn it on and you definetly shouldn't do this after replacing a HDD with SSD. KM removed this feature with the i-series/after moving to solid stage discs.

Hopefully you mean SATA and still don't have any machines that need IDE drives out in the field. If you do, you're not going to find 3.5 inch IDE SSD drives.

                            IDE?...

IDE is really old technology. Thought all ricoh machine hard drives from about 12 years ago till present is SATA?
