Ricoh 6004EX toner cartridge not set.

Machine indicates Black and Cyan not set, have tried new cartridges, cleaned cartridge contacts, Replaced Black and Cyan set sensor boards. Ricoh recommends replacing BCU board and the ribbon cable to BCU. Any thoughts on this appreciated...TIA

Most likely something related to the ID chip connections. They are easy to damage if the bottle is shoved into the machine to quickly.

If you have fitted new GENUINE Ricoh toners & have replaced the connection boards try updating the firmware.

try to leave the front panel open, and operate the switches with actuators, try to move and / or hold the cartridges with your hand, and deactivate and reactivate the actuators, what happens? it could be a bad coupling of the cartridge contacts> contact card, possibly bent.
it seems that the coupons c-y-m are the same, you can possibly try to invert them in another position

Did the problem occure out of the sudden or diretly after swapping toners or FW update? Is it the correct toner for the market region? I think ricoh made some changes in the FW / toner chips in order to restrict using toner from other regions.

If that's not the case: I know that it seems a bit pointless but I was able to get rid of related troubles with a stupid engine memory clear. Do a backup the nv ram data first so you can restore the data.

That is correct. There was a bulletin issued about it that covered many models. The fix was a firmware update.

Replaced BCU and ribbon cables, also BCU eeprom (Nvram). Working with Hotline now, case has been escalated. Now shows all 4 cartridges not set, but on occasion will register Yellow...They got a loaner Friday so at least that relieves a little pressure. lol I will keep this thread updated.

Back in the MPC2500 days I had a faulty DV unit causing some weird toner messages. I think the TD sensor chip on those PCUs are somewhat "intelligent" and contains a little eeprom - it might exchange data with the toner chips. It wouldn't hurt to put a full set of 2nd hand PCUs from another MFP in to this bugger and see what happens....

Did you try the memory clear method?
