    [Error Code] SC555 On Start Up MP6503 / MP7503

Symptom: SC555 on startup. The error would return after common causes were ruled out.

Cause: I found the underside of the thermistor connectors covered in toner as well as the rear wall of the machine.

Solution: Reset the error. Cleaned the connector with a vacuum and isopropyl alcohol. Also cleaned the rear wall and addressed the dusting issue.

Not a model I have much / any experience with, but what "Common Causes" have you ruled out? That's pretty vague.

Check these threads for some tips:

    Ricoh MP6002 SC555 and SC542

These dirty running machines started with the Mp6000, then the MP6001, the MP6002 and now the MP6503, all with the same overtoning issues that never were addressed by Ricoh.

Actually they started with the Aficio 551/700 if you did not take proper care of them.

When I mention common causes, I am referring to the items listed in the service manual or technical service bulletins. Example: bent thermistor, bad lamp, old-style thermistor bracket, etc.

Was there also toner inside the transfer belt unit or piled up on the bottom plate of the upper frame below the transfer belt? If so it could indicate that the Waste Toner Collection System for the transfer belt unit is starting to clog up. It is unusual for toner haze from from the developer or even the PCU to get that far down stream. Usually it causes light images when the ID sensor gets dirty.

No, but the dusting issue for this model is a totally different TSB that was updated and re-released last month.

Keeping the filters clean will also reduce the amount of toner blasting.
