[Misc] ProC5100 Fiery E-22B - "No Boot Device" after System Software reinstallation

    Good morning, people.

I've been fighting this one for some days now, and I'm running out of ideas.

This Fiery had problems that required me to do a software reinstallation on it.

Problem is, no matter how hard I try, I can't get it to boot.

    noboot.jpg

    Things I've tried:

    - Installing from USB (following the Service Manual's guide)
    - Installing via crossover cable (same)
    - A different PSU
    - A different HDD
    - Installing from USB using a different pendrive
    - Tried to change BIOS settings, from UEFI boot to Legacy, to resetting to defaults.

I even tried to boot from a lightweight linux to see if the files are on the HDD, and it appears to me that they are (there are several partitions also).

I've installed the System Software several times on several Fierys both from Konica Minolta and Ricoh, and this is the first time I'm hitting this wall.

Anyone has any idea of what this could be?

    Thanks in advance!

Was the HDD you fitted a proper Fiery one or just a normal off the shelf one?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

    Hit it.

The second HDD I tried was off-the-shelf, but the original HDD is the one that came fitted with it and has been working so far...

It may still have a problem. Fiery HDD's have proprietary partitions on them and they don't like off the shelf HDD's. Order the one out of the parts catalog.

it seems an error more from a pc than from a machine / printer.
try disabling "boot from network board" from the bios and check
setting the boot sequence of disks / media
          ex. 1-hdd 2-cdrom 3-usb...etc..etc
It also checks the battery backup of the motherboard
it could be a motherboard failure.

Finally managed to make it boot.

After several trials and tribulations, what managed to solve the booting problem was replacing the SATA cable and connecting it to a different motherboard connector (along with the HDD replacement earlier, as the original had died - I tried it with a SATA-USB adaptor and it was indeed dead).

I still need to go to the customer and connect it to the 5100 and finish the configuration, but at least the booting problem is solved.

Will keep you posted. Thanks for all of your input.

I can only relate with it as this is the last thing you suspect.
It never happened with IDE connectors.
I guess sometimes you have let the past go and figure out the new problem as it keeps the world running,
I hope you have upgraded it with the new one with locks on it.

I got the cables from another (dead) computer - and it's working, and if it works I won't mess with it again. But next time it dies, first thing I'll try is to change the SATA cable before anything else.

The Fiery is at the customer's machine and working nicely.

Two things I learned from this:

                - Is still perfectly acceptable to replace the HDD with a off-the-shelf one;
                - If you mess with the BIOS settings, a BIOS reset will put everything back as it should be (it's mentioned in the service manual).

                Thanks and cheers!

                    Hello.

Sorry, no - left the business, deleted everything related to it. Just like a bad marriage.
