    SC672-00 RICOH 04's IMC's

    Hey Guys
I know the good old SC672 errors on the 04 series and the new IMC's have been done to death, but I appear to be in the middle of a SC672 epidemic. So if anyone has any new info on how this issue can be solved without changing the controller board or prevented altogether I'd love to know.
I've tried the usual USB cable, reseating connectors and following the SC672 troubleshooting guide etc, but it seems the only reliable fix is to change the most expensive part in the machine, which is not so great for the profit margin on a cost per copy contract.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.
    Thanks

Sometimes a quality line protection device will work wonders. Also make sure that the building has a good earth ground.

It may seem strange to you. But I in some and solved it by temporarily disconnecting the HDD, and at the moment most of the devices (there have not been many either), usually make a "normal" boot.

I disable EVERYTHING that is remote firmware updates (in the forum there are already several cases that some models begin to generate SC after a bad load of new firmware) and update the device using SD, then the HDD I take it to the workshop (and as I usually have a backup of the client), I do a low-level formatting to leave the hard drive clean.
This is in suspicion from what the comrade Slimslob says, there must be some electrical alteration, and the device detects noise in the reading when using the HDD, corrupting the data.
Once the whole process is done, I put the HDD back in, format from the device itself and do all the steps as if it were "new". I charge the backup and place a ferrite core on the power/data cables.

At the moment the machines that have carried out this process have not shown the code again.

The way we troubleshoot the SC672 error is pretty simple.

Try & firmware update via SD card if this fails & the machine throws the SC672 you will need to replace the controller.

If however the firmware update completes then the issue is elsewhere.

There are a lot of tech bulletins on this issue it involves checking the LED output from the controller.

We've had mostly HDD, or corrupt print job sent from some unknown accountancy software, cause this. Very rarely (as in maybe one case) it has been a controller.

First, backup and replace the HDD, do firmware and follow the SC672 procedure. If all else fails, try a controller from a spare machine.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are on to something about line protection , it's been a suspicion of mine for a while. Nice to get get some feedback confirming it. Thanks Again.

I replaced a few months ago only the sata cable of the hd and updated all the firmware, I have not had more calls. Those for PC are fine
