These copiers that are set up for printing and faxing and have only one out-put source. How(if it can be done) when someone is printing to copier or receiving faxes that only that funtion be performed so as not to get print jobs mixed with faxes or copies. I did witnes while customer was copying faxes would come in and be mixed with copies being made???
    Thanks!!!

I assume that the machine is set up with no additional internal tray or a finisher of any kind.

You could set up secure print, and they have to walk up to the copier and tell it to print out what they've sent to it.

I do not recall when the last time I set one up, as it was a very rare situation.

With a fax option, they should have been set up with some additional output tray or a finisher to help avoid situations like this.

If possible set tray 2 to SEF and in user tools make that the default tray for printing faxes. Of course, if they use that tray for another size paper, such as legal or ledger, then this may not be available.

That's a good plan, I've done that myself many a time for precisely this reason.

Just remember to tell the customer not to mess around with the tray fences and size dials once you've changed them or you'll be going back for "constant jamming".

Load one Tray with colored Paper and assign it only to the fax, so with one look you can see, that a fax has arrived

Tell your sales guy to stop trying to beat competitors on price and start selling machines that match your customers needs. A one bin tray isn't that expensive.

I feel sorry for techs that get stuck with poor salesmen. I've heard some horror stories about analog machines getting sold used. Gave me nightmares for weeks.

Rather than tell the customer about not changing fences, put some small self-tapping screws in the fence guides and that WILL be the dedicated drawer.

Unfortunately, it's a workaround we deal with, but it's not the best.

Everyone makes good points about installing the proper machine with the proper accessories. Shit, when I sold machines, I properly assessed their needs, sold the right accessories, and that's all she wrote.

              Seriously, it wasn't that hard.

Anyway, the drawer change is easier and more convenient than any form of secure print. They just have to know not to grab all of the paper and shuffle it to organize it.

I've learned through bitter experience that there's some customers that you can do this with, and some (*cough* police *cough*) that will tear the cassette to pieces trying to set it up how they want despite the screws and how ever many other notices you put up.

O.K technically it may be a "you break it, you pay for it" kind of situation. But I'd rather not go down that road at all with a customer unless it can be avoided, it makes for some really nasty arguments.

Yeah, Ollie, you're probably right. It's the same type of argument that starts with, "I have no idea how that green handle separated from the machine. It just fell off." Ok, yeah.

I would use the screws for certain customers that I knew I could get away with it.
