    SC899-00 abomination.

Like most on here, you are probably sick and tired of the SC899-00 code on the Ricoh machines caused by a print job. Is there a way of stopping this and having something else occur like an error report or a simple job deletion without the machine shutting down? No other manufacturer has this cause aything like the havoc it does with Ricoh and it has gone on for years and years. Surely there is a way? Help me please, I am close to the edge....

First update to the latest firmware version, check that the printer port is tcp/ip and that the driver is pcl6 and not the one that windows automatically detects. And even so sometimes if the customer prints documents over the internet sometimes it happens, it is better to tell him to download the documents.

Also have them use Adobe Reader rather than their browser to view and print documents. Edge is especially bad about screwing things up with PDFs, but none of them are really good at it.

Honestly, Edge is one of the worst programs I have had the misfortune of using. It's terrible. I've had to have a proper moan at some customers to push different PDF printing software out to stop the ridiculous amount of printing problems I face literally two or three times a week, caused by this bastardised heap of shite.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

        Hit it.

I have seen this a few times and I always stress to the user to only use pdf reader, its free and its the correct way.

I can tell straight away, if the PDF file icon doesnt look correct it will cause problems.
Default PDF viewer for Adobe Reader

Good luck and dont stress, ive been there with this issue.

I cannot find my thread on Copytechnetabout this problem, but was at a customer all day working out this issue until the cause was found - Google Chrome as PDF viewer

The single biggest thing you can do is to keep the firmware up to date. Most, if not all, new machines have automatic update built in, just turn it on with SP5886-111. Set it to 1

From what I have encountered over the last week or two, the problem appears to be printing pdfs when the copier is installed with a WSD. Windows scan drivers are terrible. I always recommend using manufacturer drivers if at all possible. Every customer that has gotten the 899 has been installed with WSD. Once I changed them over to the manufacturer driver and cleared the queue, the error is gone. I have had users using both chrome and edge for pdfs and both worked again once the driver was changed.

I've had some success also increasing the Host Interface settings in Printer Settings to the max settings, generally 256 KB for the I/O Buffer and 60 seconds for the I/O timeout. It doesn't fix all of them, but it has had a side effect of speeding up some slower print jobs.

Along with everyone else, turning off WSD for the Printer feature and using a Type 3 PCL or PostScript driver has helped, as well as current firmware, including any Java functions.

Issue is with W11 and the MS driver..No problem using the correct RFG driver.

I usually use WIM to turn off the WSD ports when I install the machine. That is, when I remember to do it.

I usually turn of WSD as well but we have some customers that want them installed with WSD and others whos IT department installs it and then I have no say in the matter.

How do you handle it when they want to use WSD, but then they are complaining about slow printing and error codes?

Part of the issue with WSD is that unlike a print server and Type 3 drivers, if the Type 4 driver isn't installed before connecting to the device, it will use a generic point and print driver. In theory it should be able to get to the Microsoft Store and pull what it needs but that isn't always the case.

Those generic drivers cause all kinds of issues in my experience, and while Type 4 drivers in theory are a nice idea, the infrastructure in terms of native device support is still not there.

I have always used these settings to disable WSD with good results however it seems Win 11 still automatically installs a Printer on WSD.

I wonder if there is an SP setting to totally disable it ?
