    Ricoh/Microsoft automatically add printer

Does anyone have an effective way to disable the Ricoh machine to be found by Microsoft. The driver Microsoft adds seems to be very problematic.from the settings I usually disable all the WSD in ip config and security. Maybe something with IPP. Please let me know if you have a process for this.

It is a function of Windows called Network Discovery and you can turn it off. Exact steps depend on the exact Windows version you are using, and for Windows 11, which build you are using. Here is a link for Windows 11. Option 1 is for Build 22509.1011 and later releases. Option 2 is for older releases. It has to be done on each computer. On a domain you might also be able to turn it off with Active Directory's group policy editor.

Then in WIM you need to turn off every network protocol that you are not going to use. That is pretty much everything but TCP/IP. Bear in mind that WSD is a subset of TCP/IP so computers will still be able to find the printer and might still assign it to the WSD port but won't be able to print using that protocol. Also Windows will still assign the Ricoh type driver even if it uses IP printing.

The best thing you can do is update the Ricoh firmware and keep it up to date moving forward. There have been many recent firmware updates that help with printing from the drivers windows likes to install.

thanks for the input, I’m looking for more of a setting on the Ricoh. This way it will not see it and/or not print.
I have had good results disabling these settings in Network Security.

Trouble is with turning off network discovery it will disable file sharing.

Network discovery is a dead feature unless you still have SMB1 enabled, which no-one should still have enabled for any reason.

The solution is to disable WSD on the device so it doesn't advertise its features on the network, making sure to disable all of the features. This should ideally be done before the machine ever gets to the client.

Have you actually gone in PC Settings - Network & internet - Advanced network settings -Advanced sharing settings? On the current W11 build Network Discovery and File and printer sharing are two separate switches. One makes your PC capable of AUTOMATICALLY finding devices, the other is a manual operation.

As others have suggested...turn off WSD and IPP via the WIM.

Along with disablinig WSD in the WIM, also disable IPP Port 631 - It kills Airprint, but will also kill the auto-installation of IPP Port.

Disabling those protocols does not hide the device. It merely prevents Windows from using one of them for the device.
