    IMC3500 Shuts down after Starting

    Hi Guys
I've got a IMC3500 with a very unusual fault. It appears this issue occurred after a power cut over a weekend (according to the customer).
When you power the machine up everything boots up normally to the point where the SOP loads the home screen (minus any icons) after about 30 seconds the SOP displays shutting down and the machine shuts down.
Initially I thought I had a power supply issue, but a new power supply didn't resolve. So next logically step was to look at the controller board or HDD. HDD was easy and I eliminated that quickly. So next was the controller board maybe not talking to the SOP but new controller board made no difference. So, let's try the SOP, again no difference. Next was the BICU board, tried this but again no difference.
At this point I'm really running out of options, corrupt NVRAM maybe?
    Any thought would be appreciated.
Oh, and I tried loading latest firmware but the machine won't boot to a SD card.

You could have some type memory failure in the SOP android OS. You may need to do a clean boot.
    1. Shut the machine down with the power button
    2. Immediately unplug from the wall
    3. Press and hold the power button until the power LED winks
    4. Plug power cord back, you may want to insert a surge suppressor or better yet a UPS first.

Hey Slimslob, thanks for the reply.
I have already tried this, but no joy (should have added it to the ever increasing list).
Interesting enough though I have noticed when it goes into the auto shutdown it appears to be only shutting down the SOP. The BICU and Controller are still powered up, this is only apparent with the covers removed. I have managed to get everything to sync to a power off condition and once I power up from there I get a SC672-21, after about 3 minutes. A controller board error. So back to square one.

Any type of SC 672 error the first thing to try is unplug and reconnect the USB cable between the controller and the SOP at both ends. The next step is to replace that cable.

try this if it has the fax option set fax sp 1011-22 bit 1 to one
then go to system sp5305 and set to 0.
then go to system settings , admin settings look for sleep mode and disable it.

            No Fax in this machine.

Yeah, tried the USB cable but no change. I'm fairly certain that something is pulling the power supply down. I'll update the post once I get to the bottom of it.

Can you access WIM and see if is another SC that isn't being displayed?

                  Sadly no,
But after observing the BICU, controller board and PSU on boot up the power supply seems to shut down at around the 25-30 second mark. This lasts about 2-3 seconds then seems to recover. That puts the controller and BICU into a complete tail spin and the SOP is not too far behind. I'm now suspecting that I might have a suspect drive motor (fuser, PCU, Developer) which is pulling the PSU down. So it continues.......

Did you try disabling sleep mode? If it doesn't have fax skip the first step.......

That's pretty odd - have you tried to boot with open engine covers (to rule out overload from motors and stuff).
Another thing you can try is boot it with FW sd card.

Perhaps the power cut occured as a result of a power grid overload - that might lead to multiple issues/defects in the MFP.
Do you know if other devices had issues on site, too? Sometimes a little detective work can reveal interesting input

You might think about swap controller + panel at the same time, perhaps IPU, too.

have you tried maybe moving the copier to another room and try a different outlet? plug directly into the outlet, nothing else. just to see if it will power up completely.

Try unplugging the fuser cables, or other peripherals, maybe it goes into short circuit protection. Update the fw

I had the exact same issue with an IMC3500, stripped it and found tiny (probably lizard) droppings, checked all the harnesses weren't chewed or anything, found some (what I'm assuming to be urine) on the controller board, changed it and it worked perfectly. Make sure to check the product codes on the serial sticker, they need to match the controller board.

In case they would be mice rather than lizards, it could happen when parts are left without covers, open holes...
