MPC 4504 screen resets itself.....

Hi out there,
have an odd one to report....

Had a call from a customer who said that all her "Classic" setting on her screen (she likes the old school UGI's) that we had set up for her had dissappeared.

She and her IT guy swear that they didnt fiddle with it (I know, but suspend your disbelief) and it just "done it itself".

I reset it all for her, but an hour later I had the IT guy on saying it had done it again.

I asked he usual questions about error codes or did it reboot itself, but he said not.

I personally have never seen this happen, I guess it could be an issue, but the general feed back from my collegues is that they have reset it without knowing what they have done.

Any Ideas ........

we have several of those series of machines, never happened, I would show them how to do it, so then they can arrange to set it to classic.

Next to the "home" icon at the bottom of the screen are three lines. Pressing this gives you an option to return the home screen to defaults. Maybe that is whats going on.

Is it possible that they had a sales person from a competitor visit or that they have a cleaning service come in at night. I have seen cleaning services plug heavy vacuums into the same duplex outlet as the copier throwing al sorts of electrical noise at the copier that could cause the SOP to revert to factory default. I have also seen them bring their children along who like to play.

yes I agree with the general opinion that it is finger trouble.
I will go in tomorrow and show them how to reset it and what NOT to do....

Turn on administrator authentication this will prevent them from accidently resetting the home screen icons etc,

I Agree with Mika (the likely reason), and Copier Tech (Good Idea).

This is one of the main reasons I always program the function in the top left corner in screen settings (which are not visible until programmed) as I've discussed in a recent thread.

1: When a user inevitably resets the home screen, it will NOT reset the function keys

2: Users can switch from a application to another without going home first

Hi out there,
I am going to do a belt and braces approach.

I will change the screen (just in case the screen has damage), this has the added advantage of looking pro active about the issue.

I will set the administrator lock on it.

Hopefully this will put it to bed.

I don't know if this is the case, and I hope not, but we have had 5 machines of the 04 series (MPC2004, MPC3004 and MPC4504) where some or all the icons disappeared after a few days.
Sometimes they could be added, other times the display would be stuck for a long time.
We did a lot of tests but always solved it by replacing the Controller Board.

Hi Guys,
So, I changed the display and locked it in Admin mode on Thursday, so far no recurrence of the problem.

I did ask the users an the office and they said their IT guy was fiddling with it before it reset, although he denied messing around with it.

I know what I think happened, as my dad used to say " a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"......
