    Toner cam on IM 7000

    Hi all,
I was working on an IM 7000 (similar to MP 9000 and newer) I have hardly any experience with these machines as this is our only one. I had rebuilt the PCDU and transfer unit, put all back together fine etc
When I closed the front cover I heard a click sound, I opened it back up and the toner bottle could no longer swing out, it only moves about 2 inches, not giving enough space to even take the bottle out of the hopper.
I had to take a screw out of the metal plate underneath so I could open it back up and reset it but every time I closed it, that little white roller that moves along the metal toner cam goes behind the metal and gets stuck every time.
Annoyingly it was 5pm and being half term, the maintenance guy had to kick me out. The only 2 minute I could think of as to remove it, which now means the toner bottle in the hopper swings back and forth freely with the front cover open which I thought was pretty good. I told my colleague and he said that the toner cam also helps open up the hopper as it closes to allow toner through. Is that true?
I only have today left before they go back on Monday and hammer out 12,000 pages worth of exam papers, so i'll be getting a call at 9am "the IM 7000 keeps saying no toner".
Do I need to go back today and fit that cam back to the machine, then try and figure out why that white roller behind the hopper keeps getting stuck behind it? Or is it just a piece of metal that doesn't serve much purpose?
I have attached a picture to show what I am talking about.
I am most likely to go back there today any way just to properly test the machine on large run, as I didn't get a chance to do more than 100 pages before being kicked out the door. Just not sure about this toner cam thing.

Wont last long without that part to operate the white roller. It is exactly the same as the Martini series has been since the beginning of time.

There are two things that I cab think of that can cause that. When you pulled the development unit out the normal thing to do is close the opening at the top of the toner recycle tube so the toner does not fall out. If you don;t open it before closing the toner bottle tray, it will cause the toner chuck cam to be in the wrong position. The other thing is the can guide has gotten slightly bent.

I know I turned the tube to the closed position when taking it out etc as that has been drilled into my mind ever since I forgot to turn it back open once and it filled with toner and broke the auger. One of those hard lessons that you always remember. There is a possibility it has been bent though, although it feels quite sturdy. When I go back in about an hour, I will reattach it and see if I can bend it slightly backwards so the white roller stops near the edge rather than pinging behind it.
Other than one MP 9000 we had about 12 years ago when I had only been here a few months, I have not had another machine like this until this IM 7000. So there is still much for me to learn and experience yet. Can't say I'm a huge fan of a machine designed to do milions of pages but PCU rebuild life is only 300k, feels like I have to do it every couple of months and it never just runs perfectly afterwards.
        Cheers for ideas

It only takes a couple of mm change for it to not work properly.

There are a number of things that can cause that. Chief among them is the ID sensor. A dirty or defective sensor will cause the ID patch to look darker than it actually is. Check the value of SP 3001-1. If it is above 100 the sensor is dirty.

Also check that toner is bring dispensed properly. The holes in the dispenser plate on the bottom of the toner supply unit can clog. I have also had bad toner supply motors.

that model is too new to have worn out, you probably strained it somehow during the disassembly, as slimslob says, "it takes a couple of millimeters and it doesn't work right anymore"...I advise you to order a new one, if you try to straighten it , no it will never be perfect, because of those fucking curvatures, in the meantime after making sure that the cartridge is full enough, you can put, or an elastic band, or two pieces of velcro with some thickness in order to keep the revolver in position, until the replacement arrives, order the whole complete piece, with white wheel

Check the PM counters, the materials marked with an asterisk are out of the useful count and should be replaced.
