Auto cancel locked jobs if paper runs out

Hi there, I have a bit of an unusual one here!

We have recently moved all our MFD's to locked print due to working in a healthcare situation where there is sensitive information on many print jobs.

We have had an issue flagged where locked print jobs are sent to the device and if the paper happens to run out whist these are printing the rest of the job will print out once paper is reloaded (fine makes sense)

However due to the issue around sensitivity this is a problem if a different member of staff is then at the device and could see whatever has printed.

Is there anyway to auto cancel all print jobs awaiting or sent to the device on a paper out scenario?

I am unsure why this would be necessary. If the prints are sensitive; then they will need to stay with the machine, whilst it is printing.

If it runs out of paper, then they can manually cancel the current print job, refill, then print from where they left off.



If they are sending the job, unlocking, then moving away from the machine whilst it printing; this defeats the whole purpose of using locked printing for security reasons.

Even if there was I would not use it. You would be forcing everyone to send their jobs again. Since it is a healthcare situation, the person unlocking the job to print should stay at the machine until the job has completely printed. There should be paper stored in a cabinet next to the machine and everyone who prints should know how to replace paper.

Auto cancel jobs on error will give you what you require.

I don't think he was looking for advice as to whether to enable the feature or not, he was just asking how to do it.

Ah, tricky and deep question. Leaving logic aside whether i'ts good or bad, this requirement sometimes pops up in public procurements (don't know how it's called in the US).
Sometimes it can be achieved with the help of a print management system, but mostly it is down to the device manufacturer. Very few brands can do this. Xerox can achieve this. Kyo can't.
Sadly, newer tested on Ricoh. But in general, you should look for settings "what happens after logout/session end".

maybe its time to check how much paper is in the tray before releasing a large print job? as we know it wont print until that user logs in with their ID. if it has been released to print its not gonna know someone else walked up to use the copier. stay with it until its done......
