Lanier PRO 8210S- Staple Issues "ADD STAPLES"

    Hello guys,

My boss sent me to a service call the other day to work on a Lanier PRO 8210S which I have never worked on before or even seen one. We are a Kyocera non-authorized dealer and I have never worked on a Ricoh machine before. I spent too much time googling it after work hours and nothing. I really hate it when my boss sends me to work on non kyocera machines ARRRGHHH!!!...I hope someone can point me in a direction on how to fix this stapler issues.

The original problem is that the machine is indicating "ADD Staples" even though the staple cartridge does have staples. When I open the finisher main door and close it again, the machine does it own cycle thing and I can hear the staple unit moving back and forth on the rail and then it try to staples 4 times and then immediately throws the error on display "ADD STAPLES". I tried researching it on Ricoh Service manual and I can't seem to find anything about the staple unit or any troubleshooting information for it.

P.S. I did removed the black and green cartridge (holder) from the main staple unit and removed the clear plastic container that holds the staples and inspected it. I even installed a new staple container and put it back into staple unit and let it run it own cycle thing and throws the same error. The only thing I can think of is maybe the black and green cartridge itself is broken? The main stapler unit is very expensive like $700 and my boss wants to try to fix it rather than order the whole staple unit so here I am struggling . Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Which finisher, SR5050 or SR5060 Booklet. If the booklet it could be one of the booklet staplers that is out. For the main stapler is the roll of staples advanced during the finisher initialization? There is a small pawl in the staple unit that advances the staples to the stapling position. It could be the cartridge. Staple are sold as a cartridge that comes with 1 roll and a refill kit that has 5 rolls. I don't know the number of refill kits before the cartridge fails but we always recommended that a customer always keep a new cartridge set on hand. They are available from Amazon for $47.11. Looking at the picture on Amazon, the pawl might be located in the b lack portion of the cartridge. The refill kit contains 5 of rolls of staples in their plastic holder and is available from Precision Roller.

It is the SR5050 finisher. I just found out thru my boss that our senior technician who is in vacation right now recently replaced the cartridge. Apparently it worked for a short period of time and the problem came back. My boss is being reluctant on spending $700 for the stapler unit because the contract for the machine is not super great at all. We would be losing money on our side and probably won't break even for months ahead if we replace the stapler unit. So we are gonna have to see if maybe we can repair it somehow.

Check the staple unit for a serial number label. It might have the actual manufacturer on it. Ricoh is not the only one that uses it Toshiba also does and maybe IBM. You should be able to find a rebuilt one online for a lot less.

The staple unit has to be replaced but HYTECH board repair will send out a new unit for less money as long as you send the broken one back in a timely manner.

The refurbished staplers from Hytec suck. Hytec does good board repair, but take my advice, stay away from their refurbed staplers.
