It is that other 1% that is going to lose customers unless you know how to identify their source and correct it. Personally I have never had to disable IPP, only WSD and make certain no one was using Microsoft's POS drivers.

yes, I use IPP by default on linux, but in that case this happened: it's a school, after several telephone attempts, I had to go and see for myself, there were 8 pc's, and only two of the machine was code sc, checking the pc, I saw that on those two it was installed with the IPP port (only on those two), I reinstalled the pcl6 drivers with IP port, and everything went fine, they no longer called p.s. the 2003 was already updated to the latest releases

ciao, I checked this SP in the controller service manual, but nothing is specified, can you explain this to me better? here at the company we are extremely intrigued

Which model are you referring to, for example 04 series: bit
          6
Ability to use AirPrint Enabled Disabled
For models 15S and later that support AirPrint, AirPrint can be disabled from
changing this Bit Switch from 0 (default) to 1.
In the 03 series it is not specified.

              Hi Luca,
The bottom line with this is that it is an IT support problem. We all have enough to do without doing stuff somebody else is being paid to do, unfortunately a lot of IT "Support" is woefully bad.

You sound like me, a concientious guy, which means we go the extra mile to help, but it really irks me (can you tell) that we are sorting ou problems caused by lazy people not doing their job properly.

I also think (as previously stated) Ricoh need to change the message to a user freindly "Corrupt PDF detected" and design a filter to bin the file so it just wont print, rather than bricking the machine.

Hey Ho... another day in Paradise LOL!!

If it might lose you sales or existing customers, it is your problem until you can prove to the customer's satisfaction that it is not the machine.

                  Re: SC899!!!!

Unfortunately you right. We had to exchange an MPC5504 back a while because the useless IT company they were using insisted it was our machine. We put in a brand new machine, connected it up and....SC899!!! Its will come as no surprise that the IT company fixed the issue rather quickly after that!!

The problem is as I said, it costs us all a disproportionate amount of time and effort to solve an issue that is not really our baby. The upkeep of printer drivers manage the WSD debacle and updating programs such as Adobe is the IT guys responsibility and they are paid shed loads of money to do it. Also, the minute you step over the line you become the IT guy by proxy, and then it opens a whole new can of worms, I have had a company saying that their email had stopped working months after we had updated printer drivers as a courtesy, "oh and the milks off in the fridge and theres a hole on the carpet too..." as a service manager pal of mine once said.

I guess the answer is as somebody earlier pointed out, customer education, (and decent IT support.)

                  Kind Regards

                  Steve

Sometimes swapping a machine is the only solution, especially if you have more than one machine at the same customer. When you swap 2 machines and the problem stays at the location, it is a definite indication that the problem is the network. In my case it was a 5 year old 32 port switch that was going flaky.

Had 5 MP C3503 installed at Hyundai/Kia west-coast proving grounds. Had an on going problem with SC899 only on the one in the hallway outside the engineering section. It only occurred when engineers from Korea were visiting with their laptops. They were about a 90 minute drive away. By the time we could get a tech there the engineers had left. One of our techs got them to swap that C3503, which was also the one that got the most usage, with the one in a environmental test lab located out on the proving track, the one with the least amount of usage. No further problems. Back then WSD was only looked at as a cause of slow printing. For all I know it might have been the actual problem.
