    Prematurely web depletion MP4000/5000

Until now from 25 units only one is affected by this problem.
Everything started after the firmware upgrade that fixed SP2801 "failed".
All STB applied on this unit.
Checking 1902 it was showing 36% web used (1 month after initial install in the field) and physically the web was 100% depleted.
Re uploaded the latest firmware available and replaced the web and yes after replacement I cleared SP 7806-008 & SP 7804-005 + 1902 . After 4 weeks same problem.
The only way to reduce this symptom was to slow down the web rotation. Submitted SMC report to tech support for further analysis. No reply yet.
    Any other ideas?

I had this problem with an SP8200DN printer. The fusing unit is almost the same as the MP4000/5000. Ricoh says this can happen when the machine is working at maximum copy volume.

I usually change the Operation interval / time anyway - these machines always go through a web too fast even when working right - especially considering how hard they are to change.

This came from the "Knowledgebase 2" database (Ricoh UK)

There should be a firmware version to apply in your region

The cleaning web sometimes reaches its End condition before the 160K PM target.

When the following condition occurs, the possibility of occurrence increases:
The more jobs are performed per day, and the more times the machine enters Off Mode per day.

          Note:
The machine will enter Off Mode whenever there is a one-minute interval (by default) between jobs.

          CAUSE

Web control specifications on this model call for the web to be wound every time the machine recovers from Off Mode. (Web winding every time the main switch is turned ON and every 5 prints is correct specification).
          SOLUTION

The firmware will be changed to correct this symptom.
The firmware containing the fusing web countermeasure was released on April 2008.
(New engine firmware version is 1.03:05)

          Hope this helps

Pass it to sales and get them to upgrade it to a colour box

Seriously though, I agree with TCS04 on this - I had the same problem and it hasn't come back yet. Hope springs eternal...

Nice link but page not found. The point on only Ricoh pain in the neck system for a web counter is to prevent the toner to build up on fuser specially on maximum volume customer the one that buy cheap low volume machine for tones of printing. If you speed up the rate of the cleaning for the web is going to work but the life of a 100k web for example will be half so again is about money. Color or black and white the solution is still not there and to leave it the way is from factory means more visits just to clean the fuser and you may find a hard working super asking why you go to this customer so often you can not fix it? Add and a crazy thermistor code and you have a picture of a happy technician waiting for the magic of a new firmware.

In Canada Ricoh posted on TSRC website the same bulletin with firmware version 1.03.05 or newer so I used 1.05 version to get rid of "Failed" message when you run SP2801. After this fix for 2801 "Failed" starts my problem with the web. Since I modified 2 months ago the values for web speed rotation I never received I call back.
