Ricoh Aficio MP2352 slider assembly broken

    Hello!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here we go.

My printer ran out of toner today and as I opened the front panel to replace the toner cartridge a small piece of plastic fell to the ground.

Upon inspection it was obvious which part had cracked. I will add pictures for reference.

I called Ricoh Service and they said they do not service this model any longer, so unless I can find a technician in the Miami area I may have to try to replace this part myself.

I have been inspecting the slider assembly and am unsure how to disassemble it.

But first I need to figure out exactly which part (the name of) is the one I need to order. If I can figure out how to take apart the slider assembly, the area where this part fell out of, I am sure I can fix this myself.

I have found this website in order to figure out the exact name and part number of the part that has broken.

    Parts Catalog > Ricoh > MP2352SP > page 14

Since the part inside the slider assembly is cracked, and the part that fell out is also cracked, I believe there are 2 parts I need to replace. I am unsure. The part inside the slider assembly is the one that pushes out. One of the pictures I took, as you can see, is me using one finger to push that piece out, so it sticks out, and you can see where it cracked off more clearly.

I belive the part that fell out, the part that has the little screw in it is the "shaft chuck".

And I believe it is the "slider assembly", which is where the "shaft chuck" craked and fell out of.

Also I hope the pictures are clear enough. I always have trouble uploading pictures to this forum, because it forces me to resize the pictures to 620x280.

    Thank you for your input!

You're right about the 2 parts (3 & 6), but I doubt you'll ever find the individual parts.
Find a local dealer and ask if they have an entire (used) toner hopper assy for that model - or even the model that followed (MP2553/3353). It's the same.
I bet someone still has a few on their shelf. I do, and I'd sell you one cheap if you were local. Coincidentally I installed one for a customer just today that did the exact same thing!

      thanks for your response!

      I found the slider here

D1203573 Ricoh Slider on Toner Supply Assembly D120-3573

But I cannot find the chuck anywhere.

However I have a new theory. It's possible I don't need a new chuck. Because I think, that the plastic piece that broke off, broke off from the slider, NOT the chuck. The chuck simply has that screw in it that holds it to the slider. The more I think about this the more I believe I don't need a new chuck. This chuck is fine. When I unscrew the screw, the broken piece of plastic simply falls off. When I google pictures of the chuck, it is naked. It has no screw, and no plastic pieces attached to it.

As you can see from this picture I found on a foreign website.

Also, I just figured out how to disassemble the slider assembly. I am now able to pull out the broken slider.

Once I have the new slider I just hope I can figure out how to screw the screw in the right position on the slider. It seems like once you slide in the chuck, into the slider, then you have to screw the screw down tight enough to keep the 2 parts together.

The slider's all you should need and it's obvious how/ where to screw it in

Actually I would say items 3 and 7 and probably just 7. The area on 6 where they show the screw above is actually the clearance slot for the head of the screw after 3 and 7 have been connected together by the screw. Cover your work area with puppy pads to avoid making a huge mess.

In truth you may need to replace the entire. The only time I have seen 7 break like that only once when the extension that 3 slides on was cracked on both sides causing to be pulled downward to lock the tray in place.

Don't mess with replacing individual parts. Replace the entire toner hopper. Ricoh even issued a bulletin that they were pulling the individual parts and only offering the hopper as a unit. The toner in that machine is so fine that any other cracks or compromised seals in a repaired hopper will get you nothing but toner all over the place.

I strongly advise you to replace the entire assembly (D120 3503 Toner Supply Unit:Ctype:Ass'y), without going into details, there are other parts inside that wear heavily, so you are 100% sure that you will not have problems .
also check that the small door on the PCDU, which opens when you insert the toner revolver into the machine opens correctly, to reveal the toner inlet into the PCDU. If it is deformed, remove it, it works even without it, and also check that the gears of the pcdu development group are not worn , that they run correctly without jerks.

oh god I just realized you are correct. I didn't realize that part #7, the "chuck bottle", pulls out of the slider, and upon pulling it out of the slider I noticed that is the only part that is cracked. Hopefully it's not too late to cancel my order. Fortunately the same website I ordered the slider from also has that "chuck bottle" part.

Thank you for your input it saved me a lot of trouble.

I understand what you're saying. I am not certain I know how to remove the entire toner assembly. I have been unable to locate a service manual for this model as it is rather old now.

above, I gave you the code of entire toner assembly, remove one, and put the other, you don't even need the screwdriver

I've never done this before so I'm figuring it out as I go along. I just pulled out the entire assembly, I didn't realize it would be so easy, I just had to press down on that green little tab on the left.

There seems to be toner all over the place on the interior of this area where the toner assembly sits. I am planning on buying a toner vacuum to clean this all up.

Initially I was pleased to read that the part I needed to replace was only like $15 however the toner assembly is aout $150. I suppose it is what it is. I hope that by installing an entirely new toner assembly is the right decision.

do you guys recommend purchasing a brand new one or a refurbished one? My machine is already so old, perhaps a refurbished one is sufficient?

Also, what does it mean the condition is "harvested" ?

the price is not bad at all, we pay around 50-60 euros (original new)as resellers, if I remember correctly.
the machine is a disaster...has it been at war with the toner?....how many prints does it have? look at the counter, has the drum ever been changed some time? (that thing on the right)... because if that too is gone, then the whole reasoning changes.

i dont know what mean "harvested"

a toner vacuum cleaner can cost from 400-500 euros upwards, if you don't use it every day it's not sustainable

All that leaked toner will also have dirtied the glass of the laser which can be accessed by removing the screw located near the green lever in the photo.
