Have you encountered any issues that need fixing with the firmware? RFUT ?

      Hi,

I have an issue related to the samba version I need to use to get the "scan to folder" feature working, on a recent Linux (Debian).
Linked with that I've never checked before if fw were available for this printer, and after a quick check it is not in the "supported" list of RFUT

I have an issue on this printer with A3 printing : the last 2cm (if fact, the last pass of the printhead !) shift from about 8mm on the paper.
I face this issue a really little on A4 paper in landscape mode only, but it seems constant on A3 printing

I do not think it's a firmware issue, but as I'm working on it, and if I can fix the SMB problem and refresh the printer that would be great.

      Cheers

          Hi,

I really thank you for this feedback, that's really interesting

Unfortunately, I do not have octopus account, so I cant DL or read the release notes, but I see some updates regarding Engine, network, etc.

Is it possible to forward me these updates, trough the forum mp or via any relevant mean ?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.
          Cheers

Re: Ricoh Aficio MP C1500SP / B229 firmwares

The MP C1500 may be too old to support SMB v2/v3. Does anyone have the most recent version of the list of models that support SMB v2/v3. All I can find was published in 2017. If it is not on the list it is not supported. The oldest models it shows are the MP Cxx03. The processor used in Product Codes begin with B may not support the needed firmware.

              Hi,

Thanks for your feedback, I think you are right regarding SMB v2/3.
I will check how to mitigate the usage & the feature on the Debian system.

Regarding the updates of the firmware, even if it was not on the supported list, I"ve done a couple of try & I can confirm that RFUT worked well with this platform !!!

For those who have difficulties to make RFUT working, you must pay attention to the services enabled on the device : it needs HTTPS, SNMP v1/2, FTP enabled to works well !
I have also enabled SSDP, but I'm not sure it is used by RFUT (I give it for info).
I've spent a little time because FTP service was disabled... when something miss on the device, RFUT is saying : "The device is not turned on. Or the device is not specified." that's pretty unclear !!

In the help of RFUT, I've found this list of need services :
              SNMP 161
              • To add one or more devices.
              • To obtain information for remote firmware update.

              FTP 21
              • To update firmware.
              • To obtain or update (in Pasv mode) firmware information.

              HTTPS 51443
              • To communicate with a device running JavaTM Platform for extended functions or a device where Java VM is available for SD card options.
              • To obtain or update application information.

              HTTPS 443
              • To communicate with a device for which port 51443 is not available for communication, such as a device not running JavaTM Platform for extended functions.
              • To obtain or update application information.
              • To update firmware.
              • To obtain or update firmware information.

I hope this will help people who are looking to refresh their old devices

For info regarding my hardware problem on a3 printing : it's still here, but really less, as I was able to print 2 sheets well, on 4 sheets printed... before, it was near 1 sheet well on 10 printed !

If you're scanning to a Debian system, instead of opening up SMB1, just scan to NFS. If Windows clients need to access the same files just share the same directory through Samba.

NFS has issues of its own, but it's still considerably better than SMB1.
