    General impressions on Ricoh

    Hello all,

We are maybe going to start selling Ricoh, so i was wondering what the general impressions are regarding maintenance, reliability, webpage, settings, easy of maintenance/use, common problems...

    All input is welcome

look, I'm happy with it, especially with the disassembly, the machines work on average well, there's a large community, and the finishes are quite accurate, above average I'd say, the only sore point are the prices of spare parts, it almost seems that they invent them, but other people don't just give them to you either

I am told the parts in the current Ricoh product often last longer than factory spec but when major assemblies need to be replaced you cannot order individual parts. The assemblies can be expensive and time consuming to replace.

It all depends on the model lines you want to push. Always pay attention to the recommended usage levels. Far too many dealers put entry level models in locations that are doing more copies and prints per month than those models are designed for.

From what I know of the market, the machines are very reliable and do not usually have strange problems. It is true that the spare parts are more expensive than the competition and in the latest series more sets are changed and not repaired. They also tend to last longer than the manufacturer says.
Another advantage is that there is a large alternative market to the OEM.

One thing to remember about how long Ricoh says parts will last, PM stands for PREVENTIVE maintenance. They want you to replace them long before they have a chance to fail.

Not really seeing the latest and greatest models as an independent. My experience was always the 60+ ppm machines were bullet proof when PM cycles were followed. The midrange machines are equally good starting with the xx54 series.

For the most part keep the firmware up to date, don't abuse them, and you're in pretty good shape.

Switched to Ricoh 6 years ago from Konica Minolta. Much more reliable than KM. Parts last longer and easier to work on.

Being here for so long and reading tech's opinions about other brands I was under strong impression that Ricoh are maybe in par with KM machines we service and I really like KM after being with Toshiba initially KM are far superior especially in color.
Thanks for coming here and making direct comparison 3ktlc

...and the reverse can be just as bad. An under utilized machine can need more frequent servicing (and parts) than normal, without getting the return on cost per copies. We sometimes see this in places like large government contracts.

Before I retired, Ricoh USA had Product Support Guides for most models. One thing they had was a table with average monthly and maximum monthly volume numbers. Too bad salespeople tend to ignore those numbers.

Since most of my esteemed colleagues here have said things that I will not repeat, I will say the following.

The RICOH brand is best known for the quality provided by the technical services of Authorized Distributors. And I think that many of us here have known how to deal with issues with the quality and dedication that is required of us.

So to the extent possible, continue marking that quality value.

Yes, its true, for example, on a old mpc2051 the pcu's life run also 3-4 times, on the on mpc2003 its happen to me, last longer also 80-90 and over! Depending also from use and envirroment

since you are looking at becoming a new dealership. the older models required you to rebuild assemblies, pcdu, fuser, transfer belt, and etc. the newer ones, the IMC series, are more user friendly. that you can just replace the entire assembly in one go. though you still have the option to remove the old assembly. and take it back to the shop, order parts, and rebuild it. but i am glad that they finally got on board with some of the other brands, as far as being easy to replace assemblies. a customer doesn't want to have to wait hours for you to rebuild any assembly. and it's not practical, you can't keep one of every single assembly on hand. good luck.
