Who installs the printer in a company

Who installs the printer in a company?
hello good morning. I have this question?

In the US or other countries, who is in charge of installing the drivers on the PCs when a printer is rented? the network administrator or Ricoh support engineer?

Why I ask: In Colombia, there are security companies that pass the buck of installing the machine to the support engineers (Ricoh), when it is necessary for the engineer hired by the company, out of laziness or because they do not know nor do they want to know. You have to ask for the PC administrator password, you have to wait for them to remove the download restrictions, you have to wait for them to enable the USB or CD ports, etc.

If the IP is lost and there is no printing, they call Ricoh to go and find out what happened. In other companies, the network administrator is shown or taught how the installation is done and he then trains his subordinates. What is it like in your countries?

I appreciate your opinions, experiences and suggestions. Thank you so much.

Depends some companies don't want you to do the install. Many cases we just show there IT how to correctly install and configure the print drivers.

Other companies we do it all

    Either way both easy calls

      thanks for answering.

Here there are companies that give the induction to the network administrator and there is no problem, but there are others that want every time they change the PC or someone new arrives or they had to format the PC, the rental company comes and installs the machine in the equipment...and if every day they make a change or it breaks down or someone new arrives, they call and expect it to be free.

This week they have called 5 times, practically a daily visit to install each team.
To enter you have to wait more than 1 hour at the gate for permissions to be given, wait for the administrator to remove internet restrictions, ports, etc... the visit can take 2 hours or more of which, the driver is downloaded and Installs in 5 minutes.

      thank you very much, greetings.

the correct answer is "it depends", for example we first agree with the customer, based on his requests, generally in large companies where there are servers and domains, therefore passwords and other sensitive data, for reasons of privacy laws, we bring the machine, I enter the network parameters that were communicated to us, and then IT takes care of the rest, at most we agree that if they have any problems not to hesitate to contact us to carry out a joint intervention with us.
from the smallest customers, we take care of it completely, that is, me.

We generally do the same, it depends on the client if it is small or large. And when it is a new or formatted PC, as the machine is already configured, we do it remotely with anydesk or teamviewer.

Here most large companies (50,100 or more PCs) do not allow remote, be it anydesk or Team viewer or others for security. Hence, every time they format or someone new joins, they call to have the machine driver installed on their PC...sometimes every day for a computer...

With accounts that large they required us to provide the drivers and any instructions as to configuring peripherals to their IT prior to equipment deliver. They would have the drivers installed and configured on their print server(s) and deployed to the PCs that would be printing to them at least a day before delivery. They would also provide the IP address to use for each location and what size and type paper went into each tray.

Sell them a separate contract for network support or charge them (a hefty fee) for the service in increments of 15/30 or 60 minutes, each time they call for your time and expertise. This is NOT service on the printer or copier. This is a specialized skill aside from machine maintenance or repair.

We all know the theory but that doesn't seems to work well in some countries

We have some customers who are used to want everything for nothing and some bad dealers who really screw down the price profit margin so if we want more money for our services our price becomes not competitive.

That's great, I've tried it many times, but it's very difficult in this country for them to see how diligent it is to give the induction before, here they like everything there, on the spot or late.

There are few companies that see these benefits for everyone.

                    thank you .

As many here know, I'm a 1 person operation, and I generally deal with relatively small organizations.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this helps, but I've also been overwhelmed at times by being responsible for this type of thing every time a new PC or laptop is put in service at some of my client's.
I've started utilizing the Print Driver Packager NX, and creating an installer package with the preferred default settings, and the proper IP address embedded into it, for their device (or devices) and giving it to the office administrator (or manager of your choosing).
Usually, I just upload it to my cloud storage, and send them a download link.
They just have to run the program and the machine is ready to go.

I'm sure others will have their views on this, but in my situation, it's become a very handy tool for me, and saved me a ton of time!
Maybe this is an option you can consider?

Re: Who installs the printer in a company

The company I worked for did driver & scan installations on (3) PC's, included in the purchase. Everything after that was billable. I made it clear that this was a demonstration, and that local IT would be handling any additional installations. That was not a hard & fast rule though. If you were the bosses friend, I might be installing drivers to two dozen PCs, and spend the next three days entering every single email destination ever sent to into the addressbook (there's a fun story there).

Large corporations and financial institutions are the exception. They did not want me anywhere near their network. I emailed them a link to the driver website, input an IP address during setup, & plugged in a network cable. They did everything else.

I think the real estate sales organizations were the worst. There was a steady flow of employees leaving, employees starting, with every conceivably variety of laptop, needing drivers, scan functionality, addressbook entries, ... on average (10) a week. After the fourth time, we sent them a bill. They decided that they could do it themselves after that.

So as you can tell, this is a tricky topic. They'll ask for anything they think that they can get for free. You'll have to draw a line somewhere. It's usually on a case-by-case basis. =^..^=

                          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I will be analyzing and assuming it. We are the same, I am self-employed, I work alone and I attend to about 80 machines and those calls are overwhelming. Your way of working will be very useful to me. greetings

Well, in this company, I spoke with the network administrator and I told him that I was going to charge a full fee for each installation even if it took me 5 minutes... I asked him if it would be well received by the general managers. He didn't say anything, he stayed silent and just asked me for the download links again.

                              greetings
