    MP C3000 fuser gears damaged

I've got a C3000 that has had two sets of gears (all) in 107K. Something might have gone through the fuser at 293K and we have had problems since then. The fuser is at the shop and we can't see anything out of place or not straight, so far.
Any ideas short of changing the fuser?

I've only replaced 1 gear and that was because the customer removed the fuser and dropped it. Promtly put it back in the machine and wondered why it was making a noise!

Are the gears breaking or breaking the teeth off them?

Sounds like there is too much pressure on the gearing mechanism. Have you replaced the bearing etc as they should be replaced at 160k according to the manual and at the reading you have the fuser might be a bit tight now.

I've recently stripped and rebuilt a 4500 fuser as i had a continual ferrite core error and the machine had done about 1 million.

Sounds like something internal to the fuser unit. Like too much load caused by bad bearings or roller too hard to turn

There are fair few plastic bushings on MPC4500 fusers that you would not normally need to replace at every PM but they will eventually ware out.

        Tension roller bushings
        Ferrite roller black bushings
        Oil supply roller bushings

        They are PM parts though.

One of the weak points often over looked is the plastic bracket that houses the rotational shaft and wheel.
A large number of the fusers I've PMed the two screws that hold this bracket in place work loose causing lumpy movement which can lead to SC548.

          Findings

We've found out the pressure roller is stopping and the gears continue turning, spinning the pressure roller gear around the shaft. Something is binding the pressure roller. To let you know, I'm putting in a second PM kit after 100K, and a third set of gears (from the PM kit). I'll check the bushings, but I think the important ones are in the kit.
Thanks for the info, I'll post what else I find.

I saw the same thing, pressure roll binding, a week or two ago. I couldn't find anything wrong per say, so I took the gears off, inspected everything and put the gears back on. I turned the unit again, by hand, and it worked perfectly.

Yes, it was time for a PM anyway, so I rebuilt it. I left wondering if there was actually something wrong with the gear that has the bearing in it, because I noticed that it would only bind if you spun the fuser in the drive direction. If you spun it backwards, it would not bind. Of course it was too late to check said bearing, since I had thrown the used parts away, so...
