    3004 CTL Board Replacement

I had a MP C3004 get a 672-00 Code. After trying all other things with the control panel and cable, I decided to replace the Controller Board with one from a parts machine.

When I switch the controller boards, along with the 2 NVRAM and DIMM Board, I get a 995-03 code saying serial number mismatch because it was installed incorrectly or malfunctioning. (Serial number Set and BCU both correct)
Then when I put the old NVRAM and DIMM board in the controller I get a 995-01 code, but still the serial number display and BCU are correct. It shows the serial number of the machine I am trying to fix.

I don't have a lot of experience with replacing the controller board since I usually turn those machines into parts machine because it is usually more cost effective for me.

Obviously, with the one I'm fixing having the 672-00 code and not allowing me into the SP Mode, and the one I'm using the board from being a parts machine, there is no saving/transferring of any data.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to bring over the BCU from the machine I got the controller board from?

UPDATE: I did notice in Factory Service Mode it shows an option under 5-811 "Novita" which displays the serial number from the old machine but doesn't allow me to change it. No clue what that is

Was the parts machine a C3004 or a different model CXX04? Each model uses a different Controller board.

change with the same ctl model

      eg 3004 with 3004 ctl
      3004ex with 3004ex

use the same nvram(2) from the sc672 machine and you good to go

        I'm using a 3504 in a 3004.

I made sure to check the ex portion. Do I need a 3004 then? Figured the non-ex 3004 and 3504 would be the same. Am I wrong?

          Different part numbers:
          For the D238 MP C3004 - D2385660
          For the D239 MP C3504 - D2385661

Well that's probably it then! Dang, I didn't think the 3004/3504 were different in that way, since in 5-907 you can change it accordingly.

Anyways, I trust that's it, when I find a part 3004 machine ill replace it and see how it goes and report back. It might be a bit before I have a part machine 3004.

Is the replacement a lot different if i just install a brand new one? Never actually ordered a controller board before.

Hi, I don't know if you have already tried this but put the original board/nvrams back into SC672 machine but remove all the toners and leave front door open, then power the machine on. If it boots normally, close the front door and it will indicate no toner - then try inserting one toner at a time (closing the door each time) and the indicator for that toner should disappear. I have had annoying issues with toners whereby when you reinsert the troublesome cartridge you are greeted with a SC672 error message. If this is the case, try cleaning the RFID chip on the rear of the cartridge (and the contact spring inside machine) and try reinserting again. Hope this helps as it is somewhat cheaper than ordering a new Controller!

As stated above I have had some success in removing the CTL board, NVRAM & RAM clean all contacts & refit.

Also try & to update the firmware via SD card, if the machine throws the SC672 error before it attempts to update then yes you will need to replace the ctl board.

                  Thank you for the advice.

Lord F I did that already before getting to this point.

Yes it codes before I can get to firmware, also tried that already.

                  Thank you all

One thing you can try. If your part machine still has the serial number plate on, try that serial number.

try to washing well the controller board that sc672 with a lot of alcool and a soft brush, it has worked for me 3 times so far, on 2003 and 3004...maybe you're lucky too!

recently it has also worked with the electronic dashboard controller of my neighbor's on his old one Lancia-Y car.

"listen...since you fix printers, can you look the dashboard of my car?.. why is the fuel gauge and the digital display no longer working!"...LOL..LOL

when you give it back to him in working order, he was so happy and amazed that he offered me dinner on New Year's Eve!...LOL...LOL

Alright I am revisiting this...unfortunately slim i dont have the old SN, bummer.

I haven't had any of those machines come through so I am just going to order new parts.

My question now is, for this 672 code. Do I need to replace the controller board or the BCU? Or both? (i'm assuming its not the IPU even though that's where the SOP is plugged into)

SM says BCU, other places I see CTL. The flow chard for the 672-00 code seems to point to the controller. Is a 3504 BCU able to go into a 3004?

                        Thanks

The problem can be one of four items; the USB cable, the operation panel, the Controller or the BiCU. The attached Ricoh-UK Technical Bulletin from 4 years ago has a trouble shooting guide that should help determine which one.

iin the service manual, there is a paragraph on that, (672).. there are additional procedures, and flow diagrams that I think are quite precise, I don't remember but perhaps on that model there are already an array of LEDs which depending on the flashing it gives you a mirror of what is happening or what is wrong, you can also find this in the manual.

Anyway...personaliy i think that the controller are gone.

Just change the serial number of controller and BCU according to Novita serial number .
The two board serial number must match the Novita serial number
