    Aficio 270 loading toner problem

Kindly help us on solving our problem on Aficio270. What happen on the machine is that when the toner sign blinks, you can still produce some copies until it stop because the toner is totally drained because unable to replace the toner bottle immediately. The toner sign stops blinking and the operation panel indicates to open the door and replace new toner cartridge. So when we replace the toner, the the loading toner... appears now and i waited for the machine to stop. When the machine stops, the toner sign is still there and the panel still indicate to replace the toner. I try to open the front door again and reinsert the toner bottle. the loading toner... appears again and so i wait again. still toner sign doesn't disappear. I've done that procedure twice or trice. After waiting for a long time, the toner sign disappear and now ready for use. What worries me is that i don't think this is normal, because doing this may cause overtoning every time adding toner occurs. I've check the toner supply casing- it is okay. The toner motor is okay. What seems to be the problem here?
Hope you can help us on this. Thank you very much.

Could it be that by letting the bottle run completely to the end that the drum doesn't hit the right density to continue until after a couple of toner refreshes? If memory serves, there were a few firmware updates for toner issues with this machine.
You may also want to consider replacing the toner hopper...

I think this is the model that had an issue with the dev auger gears breaking and so would not add toner. Split the dev and drum sections and check the augers and gears in the developer section.

I had several of these in the field years ago. A lot of customers do not install the toner when it's asking for it, they wait until they can't make copies anymore to change the bottle. On this model it is not unusual to run forced toner supply 4 or 5 times before the light goes out. As far as the overtoning these machines are notorious for dumping toner out and under the PCU area, especially on units that are left on all the time. The machine never has a chance to go through process control causing the toner dumping. I have seen the td sensors go out on the type 270 and 320 drum units, also, but not on a regular basis.

Don't forget the mylar 'shovels' inside the toner supply unit can also come off.
Don't take that toner with me!

I agree. Time to get a new PCU type 320 throw it in and get out of there If you are sure the toner hopper and motor are ok. The two biggest culprits on the hopper itself are first the claw getting stuck in the slider and secondly as fearless pointed out the mylars inside the cup assuming the green handle isn't broke

Most add toner problems are due to either the green handle breaking or the old toner bung being left in the hopper due to incorrect changing of the toner.

I would clean out the hopper ( take it apart and vac out the thing) check the mylar shovels in th ehopper, check for clogs in the shaft that feeds the toner, ect... if this dont do it , i agree the dv tank auger could be the issue.

All Good Suggestions. SO many things cause this. You can "crash the developer" By using up all the toner in the mix. We tell customers just replace it when it ask and don't run it dry. If the bottle is more than 15% left in it then call us as there may be something wrong.

If I recall, when the auger snapped the toner would deplete at the mag roller but not at the TD sensor, this resultedd in fient copies but the machine did not ask for toner.

If the gears are shot the machine would ask for toner.

                            Add toner

I still work on this model the most common problem i run into is bad DV gears
just open the toner shoot on the PCU and check to see if the opening is pack full of toner that will indicate the gears are bad. you can also run in the service mode 2-220 and see if the ref value is changing this will tell you if the toner hopper is adding toner.

Have a look at the shaft that drives the PCU to see if the bit which engages in the PCU is stuck back or the pin that stops the shaft from just spinning has broken.
