New way to clean MP4000/5000 DV Rollers

I found a new and easier way to clean the mag rollers. Pretty easy in my opinion.

1. Take the mag roller out and clean the dev off it. Save it on a clean sheet of paper.
2. Grab one of those yellow toner cleanup cloths (Stretch and Dust).
3. With about three or four layers of the cloth between the mag roller and your thumb nail run the cloth over the roller long ways, applying pressure with your thumb nail.
4. The toner (wax) will flake right off!
5. Run one of those little drum fingers down the grooves to get that crap out.
6. Clean all the flakes off the roller or you will get spots on the copies
7. Apply some brillianize or RainX as per your preference.
8. Wipe it dry.
9. Put the developer that you saved from step 1 back in the dv unit
10. Install the roller and you're done.

The alcohol cleaning route takes twice the time....not to mention very messy.

I clean the dev off the roller, then use a scotch brite pad . the rest of that procedure is the same.

Sir,my procedure in cleaning development sleeve im using folded paper so that the magnet coating is not damage.but theres a new modified development sleeve:

Yep, we all know that, but the new mag roller also cakes up...

I have been using a soft cloth with ISS "Pro-Care" Ink BeGone. It dissolves the waxy build up very easily and doesn't seem to hurt the mag roller. I then just go over with alcohol to clean off the residue.

Since you will probably be changing the dev anyway due to overtoning, simply use a cotton cloth and rub with the developer. This will easily scour the coating away without damaging the roller (much easier that the fingernail method IMO) A cotton cloth is best as it holds the dev in its pores and requires less effort.

Then empty / vac and replace the dev if required.

I use this method on all Ricohs with no problem.

Ricoh will recommend you clean the PCU, but, shouldn't be a problem so long as you slide a sheet of paper between the units before initialising the dev.

The mag roller doesn't have grooves now.

The surface is made of aluminium and is not magnetic so can't be harmed by cleaning.

There is a rumour of a new type of toner coming to rectify the over toning.

We have rectified the over toning by not selling any more of these!

I used to use a scotchbright, but was without one on one job so used the paper method was surprised how well it workd and have used it ever since.

I have done the paper method too after reading about it in a bulletin. I have only done that when I can't get a new one though. I say just put a new one in.

The new toner is rolling in. Bulletin 7 under the D009 series was re-released as 7R and has all the procedures and #s, as well as how to recognize the new type toner.

Considering that was May 1st when this bulletin was released. Anyone seen any of this toner or experienced it yet?

Yes but it's too early to give a proper feedback. What I've seen was not very promising - fully coated mag rollers after 30-50k copies with new toner (two machines so far). Other machines seems to run better - especially the ones we've equipped with new dev during the "toner changes (against the RTB advise).
