I'm planning to buy drum and blade from katun ,do you think it's worth it ,or from your experience changing the whole drum unit (black for all) is way easier and safer?

              Hi,
This is maybe a little 'out of topic' but I am wondering how difficult it is to replace the drums of MP C3300... Before the changement of printer, we were using the AP3800 model and it was very easy to change the drums, now with MP C3300 we are supposed to call a technician from Ricoh. Is it that so complicated that we cannot do it ourselves ?
Not to mention... they ask 4000 EUR for the work + the drums !
Thanks to put me in the right direction.

If you read the initial post of this thread, you'll see a complete guide to changing color drum on MPC3300. That's why I started this thread.

I'd say anyone with basic mechanical skills should be able to change it, but if you're the least unsure I'd recommend you hire a pro to do the job. If you don't grind enough, or otherwise faul up, you could look at twice the cost to get it fixed. Maybe you could ask around for other prices? 4K euro is kinda juicy considering a drum takes about 10 minutes to swap out IF you're using black drum as color drum. That'd be 40 mins max plus the drums (about 150 EUR each). In our market that job would cost you about 550 EUR.

I had a new tech trainee that didn't grind enough on the new drum. Ended up with a broken connector. Took us a good 8 hours to get it working again.
                Peace sells, but who's buying?

A compay we work with has found an interesting solution. Here's a video about it.

Use this and you don't need to mess with the harness ever again, just transfer over to new PCU

Why does it say that you can only get them from this one supplier? Its pretty clear that this connector has the 2 wires crossed over so theres no need to change, like we had to when they glued the connector on the back in place. Pretty sure you just gave away a half decent idea to a whole world of skilled techs who will just make this connector themselves.

                    Just my two bobs worth.

Well to each his own. Personally I dont use it either, i just swap the wires on the connector itself. Some may not want to take that chance and order the adapter harness. It's personal preference.

I called that company in the past to inquire about bulk purchase, they wanted about $40(US) per harness. Thanks but no thanks

                          Wire Harness Converter

As sales manager at NA Trading and Technology, I'd like to add some information to your thread. We offer the wire harness converter as a way to convert each color slot to accept the black drum unit. These converters are reusable, and are very convenient to install. The cost is not as high as was previously stated, each connector is $25, and you will need 3 of them per machine. Since the difference in price for each color drum is about $220 compared to the black unit, you can see that for $75 you save $660 the first time you use them, and will continue to save the $660 per machine after that.

Still, $75.00 i a lot of do-re-me. It only takes a few seconds to switch those two wires.

25 bucks is a rip off (imho), even if you can re-use these adapters. We have a guy who's preparing these BK drum units to color. It takes just a minute or two to modify the rear connector edge and harness pin assignment, then the unit is ready to go..

Re: How to use black drum as color drum for MPC28/33/40/5000

We've been using the printer drum kits both color and b/w, printer fuser kits when available, and transfer printer units. The differences are minor and the copier version fuser units are crap anyway because of the jams when printing color. CLP240D and CLP340D units are great for cost savings in appropriate printing speed equivalents. 402714, 402715, 402716, 402717 for CLP 240D and 403115, 403116, 403117, 403118 for CLP 340D. Shave the connector and swap TD sensor and front faceplate for the CLP 240D drum units. The CLP 340D units require the harness, TD sensor, and front faceplate to be changed. Do a manual PCU reset accordingly at the last section of Process tab 3 in SP mode. For the transfer units just snip the top U shaped plastic off and slide her in! Both fuser units do require one pin in the connection to be moved, reference the original harness for which one.
We also have been using the 402960 and 402961 (MP 8200 printer) maintenance kits in the b/w D009 series (also up to the D092 series). Not quite as cost effective but the ridiculous amount of time required to do a full maintenance call on these machines seems worth it. All units slide in without much modification, the only exception is the transfer unit, you need to remove what appears to be a fuse or resistor with two pin connection, reference the unit you're pulling out of the machine.
Make yourself invaluable to everyone whether you're around or not.
