Dirty ID sensors are a good possibility, but so is the transfer belt. I've also had the upper transfer belt roller get dirty and cause similar problems because the belt is clear and the sensors can see through to the dirty roller.

Developer drive problems are a possiblity too - the developer units have a habit of sliding forward and uncoupling the drive. Easy fix is to bow the drum stay slightly inward at the center - just grab an end and pull while pushing in on the middle, and make sure it is seated properly when you fasten it back down. Good luck - I kinda like these old dogs, but the later versions had better image quality - sure are a lot easier to maintain than the MPC4000 style machines.

Does the machine fail color calibration?

how is density of cyan? if density looks good, clean id sensors. that's most likely and easiest to fix. If density is low after changing dev. I've seen dev clutches go bad and even worse the toner pump could be bad. both of these are a pain to change.

sometims it calls for toner evan when there already is. i know for a fact that the toner pumps on these machines seem to fail quite alot.

definitely sounds like a bad toner pump

If the ID sensors and belt are clean and the drum / dev unit are ok then the toner supply is next. It's worth taking an extra pair of hands if you can - its a booger to replace these. The newer models are better, but not much.
