I have asked this question before. What causes SC 990's. I've been told it's the HDD which I've replaced and the drum which I've change and the error code still comes up sporadically. I've also replace the drum unit. Is there anything else that might cause this error code???

I have had the ID sensor fix this issue, as well as the drum, and the hdd on seperate occasions. I have also had success with cleaning the front and side door switch contacts as they provide electrical signals and can cause mis-communications. Seems like a bit of a guessing game when it comes to this particular code unless you have actual ricoh tech support because i think that with the provided info from the sc990 code then can narrow it down for you.

I solved this problem before by replacing the drum and ID sensor

I agree with all of the above and would add that I fixed one recently with a new firmware update that specifically addresses this issue

Firmware upgrade to newest,

PM Machine. Very rarely is it HD.

Believe it or not, DOOR SWITCHES. There is a bulletin on it.
