    Poor transfer?????

What would cause what appears to be poor transfer in a Ricoh 400 copier when copying large runs and intermittently the lead side will start out what appears blank and then the rest of the copy is fine or the copy will come out fine then go almost blank. Customer says they can see a latent image where it comes out blank. The tray being used is the top drawer set up as 8.5x11R. I'm thinking the registration switch. The copier doesnot error out when the faint copying occurs. Please help!!!!
    Thanks!!!!

I'm not so familiar with this model but I would say it's a bad high voltage contact somewhere or a poor drum ground.

First i'd check the pm count for things like drum, dev and main charge - as this is an old m/c its probably gone over its pm life to get maximum usage from its pm parts . Look at the vsg, vsp etc like eric said before to do with charge.

Transfer power pack in side the transfer unit used to cause issues. A dry joint known other common faults in the power supplies. Worth checking for anyway..

A few things come to mind that I've seen before:

The transfer cams away from the drum for Process Control and it can get stuck, but usually its the clutch and generates an SC.

Bad drum ground was a real problem for a while, but usually you get poor solids and grey background at the same time.

Mag roller stalled - seen the gears eaten up

The contact points to the transfer can bend or break and loose all bias. Later generations of this machine could detect low transfer current and throw and SC, but this one didn't.
