    Uneven copy on Aficio 1045

I have an Af1045 which produces uneven copies even though the original is Ok. The copy has also a white band nearing one of the edges. This uneven copy has white areas while are not legible within the copy appearing randomly.

what could be the cause of all this.
    Please help...

    Thanks in advance

does this problem only happen on copies or on prints as well. print of a smc report, if quality is good then it has to be optical and i would start by cleaning all optics. if fault is on prints as well, clean laser slit glass and charge rollers to start with.

Thanks collme for your brilliant idea. At first I did not think about checking the print copy. After checking I found out that the ssame problem was eminent. Even after cleaning the optics the problem persisted.

The solution however lay in replacing the magnetic roller in the developer unit. It at last solved this menance and the machine was as good as new even after testing for a thousand copies.

I hope this will help those with the same problem presently or in future. Again thanks a lot for your contributions.

Ensure there is enough developer in the machine. If there are any spots where the mag brush isn't good you'll get weak areas, on a sky shot it will look like diagonal bands.

Sometimes cleaning the mag roller will solve this problem. I always clean it when replacing dv, a scotch pad works great.

There could be many causes of black lines : Charge roller and cleaning roller, drum, clogged recycle system, bad seals, improper grounding. Inspect the pcu carefully, also worth checking your transfer unit. Are you using oem blade? What's the copy count? Might be worth changing the entire pcu.

I've see it happen so many times, the drum cleaning blade is replaced to correct a fine line on prints and within a short time the fine line reappears on the prints. It's the charge roller and the brush roller that need to be replaced. Only once did I replace the lower frame for the PCU and it has a very low cost, the entire PCU that's big bucks.

I only change the pcu when the copy count is high or if it is in really bad condition. it saves me a lot of call backs and time and also stops a lot of the toner spilling. If it cannot be afforded you could always replace all the seals etc. I guess it's just a choice.

What do you consider a high copy count? I guess I'm too frugal, I would replace the seals like you said to correct the toner spilling and gears to correct the coil from locking.

Usually from 500k and up. Obviously if it's in good condition i leave it be.
