    mp 4500 no power

customer reorted that the machine made a loud bang when trying to copy. after that machine went dead and gave off an awkward smell. no light no nothing. i disconnected the ardf, duplex and finisher and nothing.
i checked the continuity on the fuses on the psu and only one fuse failed. this is the fu102 fuse. its the one with the white stuff in. this is a 5amp fuse leading i think to the fuser unit.

would i have to replace the psu or can i get away with just the fuse? im hoping to take a fuser unit back too incase there is a problem with the fuser unit.

    what else can it be?

Fusing Units can cause this problem. Not sure on this particular machine. Did you pull the board out and check to see if any of the board wiring was burned? A Fuse is possible and its cheaper to replace at first than the board. Also is customer on a SURGE Protector? If so file surge claim with that company. We do, and we require surge on all our machines or its not covered if surge or other problems happen.

      mp or mpc4500?
PSU fuses blow quite often on the mpc model never had one in a mp4500.Theres probably a short on the board.if you do think its the fuser check for open circuits like thermostats or replace the fuse and leave the fuser out and see if it blows the fuse.when you close the door.I dare say youll have to replace the PSU unless you troubleshoot the board to component level.
