For me, most of the time its a dirty sensor. Lots of crud in that area. Could also be the motor isn't turning or the actuator is bent.

The most possible cause of SC548 on those models you mentioned are thermistors/fuses. Overtime dirt (paper dust mixed with a toner) start covering temperature sensors and one day it gets so bad that sensors can not measure it properly. It causes SC 548/542/555 etc. Replace all of the fuer thermistors first. Also check all thermo fuses (they come as 1 unit) for any dirt buildups. I would also recommend to replace fusing unit cleaning roller+lub roller if they are noticeably worn out and lub.roller has flat spots on it (very common problem on MPC3500 type of machines). Hope it helps.

Although it was in a very early firmware release make sure the firmware is updated as a customer not putting the fusing unit back in correctly a couple of times could set off SC 548 which meant a Engineer had to go to reset. But if the Firmware is ok then what the other guys say.

SC548: Fusing unit rotation error. “A”
The fusing belt sensor does not detect change in the actuator for 0.5 seconds after the fusing/paper exit motor has turned on.
Replace the fusing belt sensor or actuator; replace the IH inverter; IOB

there is a sensor on the operator side of the machine(your left) that is a home position sensor for the fusing belt. i have seen it knocked out of position and that will generate this code.

I'm with Jomama46. Saw this SC a few months ago. A lot of dirt near the belt sensor. Cleaned it and until now it runs OK.

had a couple of clean thermistors go faulty , easy to replace, less chance of return.

Does this machine have a finisher on it?
