    2238C Constant SC-388 SC-389

This machine had been unlevel because the floor is sagging(higher in back than front) so at first I figured it threw off the toner sensors or something.

So I rolled into another room where it would be level and did a PM on it. I put in all new devs and drums.

After doing the PM I couldn't get the machine to complete an "Auto Color Calibration" without throwing one of those codes.

Not knowing what else to do and since it was making nice prints/copies I rolled it back in to the room and let them use it.

This was about 5 months ago. Now about a month ago the 1 month ago it started throwing the codes again and the CYAN and the MAGENTA devs are overtoned.

I put in a known good transfer asm just to see if it was that. Also I bent the retaining bar in a bit to make sure the devs where tight.

I have a new CYAN and MAGENTA dev to throw in there, but i just don't want to keep doing that every three months. Its a non-profit and I'm trying to help them out. 'Cuz that's just the kinda guy I am.

    TIA

Copy & Paste from svc man. hope it helps...

    • Unsuitable toner
    density
    • Toner supply
    mechanism problem
    • Laser exposure
    problem
    • Image transfer
    problem

    1. Turn the main switch off and on .
    2. Check the process control self-check
result (SP3-975). If the result is not
“1”, fix the problem according to the
    table in section 4.1.2.
    3. Print a full color image by disabling
    SC detection (SP5-809-001) and
check if the image quality is OK. If the
image quality is not OK, fix the
    problem. Then, enable the SC
    detection again.

When the development clutches aren't working correctly, you can also get these messages. I would not recommend bending the bars, because if the distance between the drums and dv-units is wrong, you can get a lot of strange SC's.

I checked (SP3-975) and I got 1555 at first. Then I replaced and initialized both CYAN and MEGENTA, after it tried to go thru "color calibation" I got SC-387. So I rebooted the machine and checked (SP3-975) again and got 1666. I ran a test copy and noticed there was streaking in the middle on thh back off the copy.

I'm going to go out tomorrow with a trasnfer belt cleaning blade. Maybe that will fix it. I'll psot back then...

If the belt is over 250k, I would replace it too.

Well I just put on a new transfer belt and blade and still can't get through auto color calibration.

I just checked SP3-975 and now I'm getting 5111 which i guess is an improvement. The black is grayed out on a test print. Something must have gotten whacked.

I'll post back later. I'm going back to the customers office.

            Later that day...

So I brought the transfer unit with the new belt and blade back to the office and and it worked fine. So I drove out to the customers office again........ and of course it worked fine. %@#%SDFW#%W#%3w

Anywho, I was finally able to run "Auto Color Calibration"! Yea!

Thanks to all. The clue that it was the transfer unit was the 1555 and 1666.
