Hi jamesyboy, in my experience, the ribbon cable form the laser to the BCU (or what ever they call it) is not connected correctly or at all. Usually at the board somehow it will get overlooked.

    Good luck

I have had the registration motor harness rub through against a bracket in the machine resulting in different very wierd codes and behaviour, including being 'tricked' into replacing the polygon motor. The resulting short causes some portion of the power supply to self protect. Worth a look, I've seen this on several closely related models.

Switch machine off and check for continuity between pins 1 and 3 on the connector of CN406 (unplugged) at the Laser diode pcb in the optics cavity. If this is open circuit with the front doors closed the problem is the laser safety switch circuit (Check by opening and reclosing the doors). Check for 5V at CN712 on PSU-E-A (PCB 17, Component Layout 2/3 fig 11, item 7)

You can check for 5V at the diode pcb CN405 pin 2, but BE CAREFUL!!! MAKE SURE THE FRONT DOORS ARE OPEN!!! LASERS!!!

              Hi,
Have a look at the SMC data, My guess is that you are also getting SC220 or 240 generated at the same time as SC996. If so, replace the LDU.

              G'Man.
